Job Title: TVET Programs’ Coordinator/ Dean

Brief Profile of the College:

Established in 2002, Universal Medical & Business College (UMBC), is one of the pioneers in the Ethiopian Private Higher Education sector. Since its establishment, UMBC has been offering quality education and training in various health fields including Pharmacy, Nursing and Public Health programs both at undergraduate degree and TVET/diploma level. The College lately has launched its 1st Postgraduate program, i.e. Public Health in Nutrition. Currently, having its headquarter around Hayahulet Mazoria, behind Dinberua Hospital, UMBC is on the verge of launching new Postgraduate and Undergraduate Programs in Business and Finance fields of studies along with expanding its existing programs in terms of level and catchment area. In doing so, the College invites qualified and interested applicants in the following vacant position/s who will assist in realizing its goal. 

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plans, coordinates, and directs the academic and administrative activities of all TVET Programs in accordance with TVET standards and expectations;
  • Prepares the campus’s annual budget and human resources requirements, and ensures proper implementation upon approval;
  • Ensures that all the trainers execute their duties according to the given schedule;
  • Advises trainees or making sure that trainees are advised and supported to advance their training properly in the college;
  • Controls and supervises support staff assigned in the campus;
  • Deals with appeals from support staff and trainees within the campus;
  • Ensures that all the facilities of the campus are properly handled and utilized for effective operation;
  • Coordinates institutional as well as national assessments conducted in the campus, and makes sure that all responsible bodies have executed their duties accordingly;
  • Ensure proper conduction of all project works and classroom assessments and that feedbacks are given immediately;
  • Supervises the proper utilization of libraries, laboratories, demonstration rooms, reading/study centres and other facilities within the campus;
  • Monitors the mode, material used and other activities of the training against the country’ occupational standard;
  • Coordinate the trainers in each department to prepare TTLMs and other teaching aids and check their in time delivery to the trainees at all levels;
  • Consistently updates TTLMs, Trainers Guides, Learning Guides, session plans, and other reference materials in the libraries/demonstration rooms in collaboration with responsible bodies within and outside of the College;
  • Facilitates and assists with the registration and fee collection activities on the campus;
  • Coordinates and monitors cooperative training programs at all places and levels;
  • Supervises, handles, and resolves disciplinary cases of the staff, trainees, and other personnel under his/her jurisdiction;
  • Prepare daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual reports with respect to all activities, and
  • Carry out other activities as required.

Job Requirements

Summary of Job Requirements:

Any successful candidate for this advertised position is expected to be able to plan, coordinate, and direct all activities of TVET programs in the College. S/he is expected to have a rich knowledge and experience of the Ethiopian TVET system specifically the private sector. Moreover, the successful candidate for this advertised position will be able to initiate and design appropriate academic and administrative strategy and ensure its implementation so as to attain the desired outcome. 

Essential Competencies & Qualities

  • Familiarity to the country’s overall TVET system;
  • Oral & Written fluency in English and Amharic languages;
  • Knowledge of the theories, principles & practices of management;
  • Excellent facilitation and networking skills; proven experience in coordinating & leading team/s;
  • COC Certified;
  • Strong analytical ability and problem solving skills;
  • Excellent interpersonal & demonstrational skills;
  • Good communication and report writing skills;
  • Ability to work in pressures and to meet deadlines;
  • Faithfulness to work ethics, to the rules and regulations in all aspects

Educational Qualification & Experience

  • MSc/MA/BSc/BA in Nursing, Pharmacy, Accounting & Finance, Management, or other Health related fields;
  • A minimum of 5 years directly related experience in the Ethiopian Private Higher Education sector of which at least one year as Head of TVET department or Campus dean;
