Job Title: Project Assistant - WASH

Duty Station: Jijiga, Ethiopia

Background

IOM Ethiopia’s Emergency and Post Crisis unit responds to humanitarian needs throughout the country.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  1. Assist in identify relevant IDPs/ returnees’ sites that needs WASH assistance and support in assessing when requested.
  2.  Assist in preparing BOQ and other related documents for WASH emergency response Constructions and assist in the contract administration.
  3.  With regular field visit, support and monitor the implementation of WASH activities for IOM Ethiopia
  4.  Follow up WASH facilities construction, prepare progress report and payment documents in consultation with WASH team.
  5. Support in carryout all field WASH activities, including technical and hygiene promotions activities on ground as directed by the WASH Officer
  6. Assist WASH NFI need identifications, beneficiary registration and verifications to affected population prior distribution
  7. Ensure smooth coordination and communications with regional and Zonal WASH cluster and IOM internal sectors.
  8. Assist in co-ordination with the National Officer (WASH), Coordinate with respective Monitor stock records of materials and Equipment’s and its proper utilization of materials.
  9. Regularly update the supervisors on the progress and issues of the WASH project.
  10. Contribute to the preparation of situation reports and ensure timely delivery of weekly and monthly reports.
  11. Perform other duties as requested by the manager.

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications and Experience

Education

  •  BSc in Engineering or WASH Related fields from an accredited academic institution. 

Experience

  • Four - years’ work experience required, preferably in similar field.
  •  Strong writing and reporting skills,
  • Familiarity with the International Organization, UN agency or diplomatic mission an asset,
  • Very good understanding of humanitarian principles
  • Good computer knowledge in MS office packages and engineering software.
  •  Ability to build relations with local government authorities, civil society, beneficiaries, and other stakeholders,
  • Ability to work independently according to established structures and guidelines, including administrative requirements, and maintain coordination with colleagues and supervisor,

 Languages

  • Fluency in English and Somali is required.
  •  Knowledge of other local languages is advantageous
