BACKGROUND

stablished in 2020, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Ethiostar Translation and Localization PLC, a professional multi-language vendor (MLV), comprises a group of qualified translators, localization experts, lexicographers, proofreaders, copy writers, trans creators, application software developers, digital marketers, computer programmers, and office and support staff essential for the day to day dealings of the company.

It is our vision to open branch offices in Asmara, Eritrea, in Khartoum, the Sudan, in Juba, South Sudan, in Nairobi, Kenya, in Mogadishu, Somalia, and in Djibouti interconnecting the great cultures and languages of the Horn, whereby we can contribute in preservation, research, data collection and development of the precious languages and cultures of the region.

Inspired by a shared goal to achieve excellence; we are currently seeking a group of translators with great language skills in Amharic, Oromiffa, Tigrigna, Somali, Afar, or any other local languages and English to work with us as partners with fair compensation as well as develop their translation and interpretation skills in a fast paced and leading company in its field.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The following is a non-exhaustive list of responsibilities for any freelance translators working with Ethiostar:

• Translate documents into specified language(s) precisely and accurately, maintaining message content and context.

Follow the 4 translation steps required by Ethiostar:

• Research
• Draft 
• Review
• Polish
• Follow ethical codes that protect data and information linked to clients.
• Identify and resolve conflicts related to meanings of words and concepts.
• Check the translation’s technical terms and related sources to be sure that the translated documents are accurate and consistent throughout the translation.
• Refer to reference materials such as dictionaries, lexicons, encyclopedias, and computerized terminology banks as needed to be sure that the translation process is accurate.
• Assemble terminology and information to be used in translations, including technical terms.
• Establish a terminology database to be used in future translation projects.
• Review contents of translation with track changes.
• Based on reviewer remarks enhance the quality of translation. 

Job Requirements

Education Level

• University degree preferably in Linguistics, Journalism, or any other related field.
• Fluency in English (written, reading and spoken)
• For all local languages – fluency in the language, with understanding of excellent written and reading of the language.

Experience

• Experience in translations
• Ability to read and understand English very well
• Passion for languages and literature
