Job Description

World Vision Ethiopia (WVE) is an International Humanitarian Christian Organization whose objective is to provide holistic and integrated development and emergency response programs in the country. WVE Central Regional Office has an immediate opening for a person who fulfills the following qualifications.

Purpose of the position:

WVE is working closely with the government and other stakeholders to respond to the needs of Internally Displaced People (IDP) in and in its multi-sectoral response plan including; Food and nutrition, WASH and Protection of children and women affected by the humanitarian crises. WVE Child Protection and GBV Prevention and response interventions includes strengthening case management, provide psychosocial support through Child Friendly Spaces in selected IDP sites and addressing gender based violence (GBV) related needs by integrating into the other sectors to further strengthen a coherent protection response.

The emphasis of this position is on facilitating community participation and enabling children and women access protection services to reduce their vulnerabilities and provide casemanagment service for survivors.

WVE are looking for a compassionate social worker to help serve the communities that we have a presence in by assisting our clients that are affected by issues such as neglect, Child abuse, domestic violence, mental health, and parental substance abuse etc. You will be in charge of assessing clients and gathering relevant information about their cases, providing crisis intervention, and contacting and making referrals to other agencies and services. A key to succeeding in this role is the ability to stay calm and empathize with clients when they are upset. You should also be aware of others’ reactions and understand why they react as they do.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Assist the project officer in case management support ,situational assessment, operational planning, implementation       and monitoring of the IDP activities
  • Provide individual and group psychological first aid/psycho-social support to children
  • And women affected by the conflict to enable them restore their safety, dignity and hope.
  • Facilitate consultation and discussions with beneficiary populations, making sure they are involved in needs assessment, delivery of protection/assistance and assist the referral of child protection and GBV issues in IDP/Returnee.
  • Closely work with local authorities and relevant government sector (women and children affairs, education, social affairs, schools etc.) to facilitate recovery and reiteration of the affected population
  • Coordinate and manage the establishment of child friendly spaces in collaboration with school, local authorities, and faith leaders
  • Duration of the contract:6 months

Job Requirements

  • Required Professional Experience :
  • First degree in social work, sociology, psychology, education or other eleven fields.
  • At least one-year relevant experience in child protection and related areas, Knowledge and experience on Gender Based Violence programming an asset. Knowledge of and ability to implement integrated CP responses, including Gender Based Violence. Awareness of or interest in community based protection mechanisms. Direct case management and experience working with children and adolescents is an asset. Demonstrated flexibility and creativity in planning and problem solving
  • Required Education, training, license, registration, and certification
  • Knowledge of and ability to implement integrated CP responses, including Gender Based Violence
  • 2 Awareness of or interest in community based protection mechanisms in emergency context.
  • Preferred Knowledge and Qualifications:
  • University degree in social work, sociology, psychology, child protection, public health and relevant fields of social sciences. Knowledge and skills of and ability to implement integrated CP responses, including Gender Based Violence.
  • Awareness of or interest in community based protection mechanisms. ​
  • Travel and/or Work Environment Requirement : Frequent travel to the project sites and to NO as needed
  • Language Requirements: Fluent in written and spoken English as well as in local languages) .
