Job Description:

The Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI) in collaboration with FAO-Ethipia through a fund obtained from Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation is updating the Ethiopian Food Composition Table (FCT) where the last version was published in 1998. The FCT has been serving as a basis for establishing food labels, food-based dietary guidelines, nutrient requirements, or relationships between disease outcome and nutrient intakes which consequently enables to determine nutrition adequacy and the evidence base for agriculture, nutrition and health policies. As part of the updating process, different food samples will be collected from nationally representative sampling sites for nutrient analysis. Hence, we are seeking data collectors for the project who fulfills the following requirements.

Responsibilities:

  1. Spend the entire data collection period travelling in the sampling woredas to collect data.
  2. All data collectors are responsible for identification of the sampling woredas and sampling locations.
  3. All data collectors should be well informed about the types of samples to be collected and the required processing on field (Sample cleaning, sample weighing, edible/in-edible portion separation and weighing, composite preparation).
  4. Record all the required information about the sampling places and the samples as per the provided labeling note.
  5. Ensure samples are properly collected, processed, packed and transported at the appropriate storage condition.
  6. Meet/communicate with supervisor daily to update collected food sample, information and challenges faced during sample collection.
  7. We seek only data collectors with the highest level of honesty and integrity.
  8. Additional activities could be given by project supervisor/coordinator.

Job Requirements

  • BSc Degree in Food Science and Nutrition, and Food Science and Postharvest Technology with a minimum of 1 year food sample collection and analysis or food science and nutrition research experience.

Language: ability to speak local language is advantageous
