BACKGROUND: The International Rescue Committee, one of the world’s largest humanitarian international NGOs, provides relief, rehabilitation and development support to vulnerable people and communities over 30 countries. We began work in Ethiopia in 2000 in response to severe drought in Ethiopia’s Somali region and are currently providing assistance to Ethiopians and refugees in six regions in Ethiopia, implementing emergency and development programs in health, water and sanitation, economic recovery and development (ERD), women’s protection and empowerment, education, child protection, and multi-sectoral emergency response.
Job Overview/Summary:
The Emergency Midwife Nurses: will be responsible to provide maternal health package is composed of antenatal and New-born Care. ANC including Iron Supplementation, provision of TT vaccination, distribution of clean and safe delivery kit, identification of high-risk mothers and facilitation of referral system to the nearest health facility, birth preparedness & complication readiness, counselling on Family Planning (FP), breastfeeding & HIV. Others are promotion and perform safe delivery &/or assist linkage to maternity waiting homes at identified hospitals, post- natal care (PNC) though follow up home visit and Vitamin A supplementation, Family Planning to lactating mothers as well as managing acute and life-threatening illnesses and provide referral services to higher health facilities as needed. The Midwife is responsible for planning, implementing, and monitoring of IRC’s Health (HIV/AIDS and RH) in the assigned Districts/Woredas under Hawassa Field Office. The Midwife nurse directly reports to the team leader and will also be technically supported by the Senior Health Officer based in Hawassa. The RH Mentor manages IRC’s Health projects with the health officer and other actors and the incumbent is also responsible for ensuring adherence to the implementation of program activities according to nationally accepted standards.
