Summary: The U.S. Mission in Addis Ababa/Ethiopia is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the position of Guard.

The work schedule for this position is: Full Time (48 hours per week)

Start date: Candidate must be able to begin working within a reasonable period of time (4 weeks) of receipt of agency authorization and/or clearances/certifications or their candidacy may end.

Supervisory Position: No

Relocation Expenses Reimbursed: No

Travel Required: Not Required

Duties

Provide security for Chief of Mission (COM) personnel and facilities by conducting access control and visitor screening duties as a member of a local guard program. Local guards detect, deter, respond, and report potential criminal and terrorist acts directed against U.S. Government personnel and facilities.

Qualifications and Evaluations

Requirements:

EXPERIENCE:

  • At least one year of previous work experience as a police officer, or private security guard is required.

EDUCATION:

  • Completion of a High/Secondary school diploma is required.

Evaluations:

LANGUAGE:

  • Level 3 (Good working knowledge) Speaking/Reading/Writing Amharic is required. Level 2 (Limited knowledge) Speaking/Reading/Writing English is required (These may be tested).

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to understand the security control panel and to operate emergency alarms and the public address system is required.
  • Able to use state-of-the-art security and radio communication equipment is required.
  • The ability to use Automated External Defibrillator is required.
  • Ability to use a fire extinguisher.
  • Ability to use personal protective equipment (i.e. firearms, PR-24, straight batons, pepper spray, handcuffs, flexi cuffs, etc.) is required. Daily duties will involve extended periods of walking and/or standing in a wide variety of weather conditions.

Agency Benefits:

  • The pay plan is assigned at the time of the conditional offer letter by the HR Office.
