Reports to: The Editor in Chief, Ethiopian Journal of Health Development (EJHD)

Job summary:

The English Language Editor is expected to provide language edition to submissions that have benefitted from technical reviews and ready for publication in the Ethiopian Journal of Health Development (EJHD). The language editor is expected to provide editorial services within the context of the material submitted i.e., edition is not mere language but in line with the content of the submission and contexts pitched in the document.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The senior English language editor performs:

  • Take charge of the overall language edition works of the journal in line with the editorial policy of the journal and the style it has adopted
  • Ensure the document meets quality in coherence, grammar, composition, and rightful expression of the point it intends to
  • Ensure the writing meets basic expectations of scientific publications to meet scientific expectations in broader
  • Make sure manuscript narratives are aligned to standard scientific reporting style
  • Ensure the document is well organized and is aligned to the basic journal’s requirement, word limit, word use, comprehensible language, clear arguments are logical flow of thoughts presented.

Job Requirements

Education/Training

  • MPH or PhD in Public Health, Health Sciences or in a related discipline
  • Short courses in academic and scientific writing, (or college education) in English (Optional)
  • Have at least two publications in peer reviewed journals
  • At least 2 years of relevant work experience as language editor
  • Proven skill in editing scientific papers

Technical and other skills

  • Proficiency in both verbal and written English
  • Language training (writing or editing) is an advantage
  • Proven interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent computer skills (MS word, MS Excel, MS Access and Internet)
  • Ability to work effectively with a wide range of professionals
