Background

Population Media Center is a US-based international nonprofit organization that specializes in developing a research-based multimedia communication strategy for social development. PMC uses entertaining education and mass media to empower people to live healthier and more prosperous lives. PMC-Ethiopia was established in 2000 and has impacted lives across Ethiopia for nearly two decades. Currently, PMC-E is implementing Gender Inclusive C4D WASH and Nutrition project in partnership with UNICEF, in nine Woredas in five regions. 

Thus, the organization seeks to invite all interested professionals who satisfy the requirements for the Position of WASH (Hygiene and Sanitation) officer.

 Job summary

Reporting to the WASH and Nutrition Project Coordinator, the WASH officer will carry out implementation of the routine activities of WASH promotion and behavioral change interventions based on the project plan, he/she prepare detail plan of the WASH promotion activities and follow up its implementation, monitor and take appropriate actions, and prepare reports.  

 Scope of work: 

The overall role of this job placement is to bring improvement in knowledge, attitude, and practice towards proper WASH behaviors including during emergencies through coordinated SBCC intervention.

Duties and responsibility

• Prepare detail campaign implementation plan for water, hygiene and sanitation activities in coordination with the WASH and Nutrition Project Coordinator.
• Conduct situational qualitative assessment to identify risk factor and enabling factors for hygiene and sanitation promotion and behavioral change intervention
• Organize, coordinate and facilitating WASH social behavior changes communications (SBCC) and interpersonal communication campaigns in the project intervention target area.
• Actively participate in designing, layout, development of tools/toolkits, SBCC materials and approaches for WASH
• Prepare and communicate locally contextualized key campaign messages on WASH
• Ensure implementation of WASH promotion activities as per planned approaches/methods through use of existing government structures 
• Ensure needs of most vulnerable are taken in to account at all stages of WASH promotion intervention/s.
• Assess and mitigate any risks and safeguarding concerns during the project implementation in the target communities.
• Collect, organize, and maintain project learnings knowledge management documentations in relation to WASH to inform future programming 
• Prepare monthly field reports covering all WASH components and submit to field coordinator, and other responsible bodies 

The organization (PMC-E) has a zero tolerance to Sexual Exploitation (SEA) and Child Abuse. Therefore, the employee shall take all appropriate measures to prevent sexual exploitation or abuse of anyone or any colleague or other persons engaged with him/her to perform any services under this Agreement. Any breach of this provision shall entitle PMC-E to terminate the Agreement with immediate effect. 

Project area: Oromia Region, Bale Zone and Gambella Region

Location: Medaolabo and Gog woredas

Job Requirements

Skill and requirement         

• Bachelor’s degree in environmental health and sanitation, or advanced degree in Public Health
•  5+ years of relevant work experience in the field (NGO experience has advantage)
• Experience in WASH and Nutrition promotion
• Knowledge in cross-cultural awareness and public health issues
• Good communication skills, excellent report writing
• Basic knowledge in computer and software application
• Language: one fluent in Afan Oromo and one in Amharic
