Job Summary

The Security Officer (SO) is responsible for advising on all matters relating to Field Office Program security management. The Security Officer is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of CRS Field Project staff, facilities, and assets. The Security Officer, under the guidance of field office leadership, is required to ensure that program and project staff comply and adhere to CRS’ security management policies, procedures, and standards.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Update and maintain standard operational procedures (SOPs) and Contingency Plans for security operations within the Field Office Program.
  • Maintains a system that monitors security reports for immediate field office program action as appropriate.
  • Provide coordination and support in all areas of security capacity building including preparedness, training, orientation, learning, technical assistance, and advises on specific security situations.
  • Conduct on a regularly basis, Security Risks assessments and update policies related to Field Office Program security level
  • Provide security trainings to project security focal points and all Field Office and project staff.
  • Ensure security is part of new staff induction and all visitors traveling receive security briefings.
  • Assist Field Office Management in gathering and analysis of security information.
  • Inform the Field Office Management of any potential threats for staff, CRS properties and assets.
  • Gather and analyze security information and forward to the Field Office leadership with recommendations as appropriate.
  • Ensure all trips and movement are conducted in line with CRS Safety and Security Standards. Including creating and maintain an effective system for tracking all CRS travel and movement.
  • Establish and maintain effective liaison with local police, security forces, UN, INGOs and other relevant local organizations.
  • Ensure integrity and functionality of all Safety, Security and Communications items.

Job Requirements

Typical Background, Experience & Requirements:

Education and Experience

  • Completion of college diploma in related field. Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field preferred.
  • Minimum of four years of experience in security or related field. Preferably with experience in developing and implementing security management systems at an INGO.
  • Strong customer service and effective communication skills (good listener, positive, supportive, clear, constructive, and accessible) both written and verbal.
  • Excellent Knowledge of MS Office package (Excel and Word) and mapping software.

  • Strong attention to detail with good organizational, time management and prioritization skills.
  • Ethical conduct in accordance with recognized organizational codes of ethics
  • Strong analytical, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proactive, resourceful, solutions oriented and results oriented.
  • Ability to prepare training materials and to present training materials.
  • Ability to learn fast and adapt quickly to change.
