Position Title: Data Entry Clerk / Hygiene Promoter

Position Grade:G-4

Duty Station: Jijiga, Ethiopia

Type of Appointment: SST, Six months with possibility of extension

Background

Under the overall supervision of the Chief Migration Health Officer in Ethiopia, the direct supervision of the Migration Health Officer in Jijiga and the Senior Medical Assistant - Data Processing in Addis Ababa, the successful candidate will assist in the processing of migration health assessment activities of migrants at the IOM Migration Health Assessment Center in Jijiga, Ethiopia, particularly the incumbent will implement hygiene promotion for refugees, and provide clerical support. In particular, he/she will:-

Core Functions / Responsibilities:

  • Support the implementation of hygiene promotion for targeted groups of refugees based on assessment of their common hygiene attitudes or behaviors
  • Support sustainable sanitation and hygiene behavioral change communication, which is responsive to the practices of refugees accessing the IOM MHAC Facility in Jijiga, Ethiopia
  • Perform general clerical work including printing of all medical forms, uploading of scanned medical documents including signed declaration forms, photocopying, maintaining a filing system for all medical records, memoranda, letters, reports and IOM documents/ forms related to IOM medical operations and assist in the preparation of reports
  • Ensure completeness of medical data collected through corrections, verifications and validations before entering the data
  • Support transmission of x-ray images and tracing of medical records
  • Organize and file the data sources, facilitating easy access and understanding by the relevant staff
  • Prepare and submit data for on-hold files and any other data as requested by the supervisor
  • Perform any other duties that may be assigned.

Job Requirements

Educational Qualification

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Public Health, Nursing or related discipline is required. Certificate in Information Management Systems or related field of study is advantageous. Training in medical records and informatics is an added advantage.

Experience

  • Three years’ experience in hygiene promotion or public health with a minimum of 3 years’ experience in clerical work and computer data entry in a busy institution, preferably in the medical field is required.
  • Demonstrated strong computer skills especially in Microsoft Word, Excel and Access.
  • Secretarial and archival experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and with minimum supervision.
  • Active team player with ability to work harmoniously with colleagues from varied cultures and professional backgrounds at all levels.
  • Capacity to work independently; able to carry out tasks with attention to detail; and demonstrated ability to maintain accuracy and confidentiality.
  • Well-developed inter-personal and communication skills with an ability to communicate effectively with others from different social, ethnic and cultural backgrounds and adapt to different cultures.

Position specific skills:

  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Knowledge of data protection rules and regulations of the organization.

Languages

  • Thorough knowledge of spoken and written English is required.
  • Knowledge of local languages like Somali is an advantage.
