 1. Role and responsibilities 

To Assist the Finance Manager to ensure that all Ethiopia Program grant management and finance systems are consistent, and grants utilized and accounted for are compliant with NRC and donor regulations and procedures.

Generic responsibilities 

  • Ensure adherence with NRC policies, tools, handbooks, and guidelines 
  • Implement delegated support function portfolio according to the plan of action 
  • Prepare and develop status reports as required by management 
  • Ensure proper filing of documents  
  • Promote and share ideas for improvement of the support function 

Specific responsibilities  

  • Prepare and analyze the Balance Accounts Reconciliation for NRC Ethiopia
  • Prepare and analyze the Project Summary ( executive BVA and cash request) for NRC Ethiopia
  • Assist the Finance Manager to have an overview of all project budgets for the Ethiopia Program.
  • Contribute to the design, development, and implementation of the grants management policies, procedures, and practices
  • Participate in the preparation of the Administrative Budget for the Ethiopia mission
  • Ensure monthly budget monitoring is done for each project
  • Review and consolidate all grant management reports
  • Continually review the entire grant management system and provide recommendations to the Finance Manager on its improvement
  • Prepare financial reports to NRC Regional Office and donors
  • Ensure timely transfer of funds to all NRC Ethiopia field offices.
  • Ensure timely preparation of payments vouchers
  • Spend a minimum of 40% of working time in Ethiopia Program field offices.
  • Replace the Finance Manager during the absence.

  • BA Degree in Accounting 
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience preferably in INGO 
  • Experience from working in complex and volatile contexts
  • Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities
  • Knowledge about own leadership skills/profile
  • Solid knowledge of computer software and modern accounting systems
  • Fluency in English, both written and verbal

 Context/ Specific skills, knowledge, and experience:  

  • Understanding of the relevant laws and statutory requirements. 
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills 
  • Wide knowledge of the INGO operations and the dynamics of the humanitarian sector 
  • Keen sense of compliance with policy and procedure 
  • Good employer-employee contract negotiation skills 
  • Personal conflict resolution and problem-solving skills 
  • Strong organizational and team working skills 
  • Good cultural awareness and sensitivity 
  • Basic employee counseling skills 
  • Highly confidential  
  • Good computer application skills in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, database, and network communications. 
  • Experience in financial systems and structures development
