Job Description

JOB PURPOSE

Lead the Internal Engagement unit, consisting of internal, risk, executive, and strategy communications, ensuring our staff are connected, engaged and inspired, unified by our organizational values, and equipped to fulfil Our Promise.​ Develop and manage efforts to ensure; World Vision Ethiopia leadership regularly engage with staff through tools that are simple, foster two-way dialogue and are appropriate to the context; Staff are aware of and participate in global moments, motivated to share stories and communicate on key messages as World Vision Ambassadors; and build World Vision’s brand by equipping a pool of spokespersons and thought leaders to effectively communicate World Vision’s mission, vision, and Christian identity.

Major Responsibilities

  • Lead in the development of a communicative culture across the organization, one that is strengthened through senior leadership and executive engagement
  • Context-driven communications strategy and associated business planning that supports organizational strategy execution is developed and implemented
  • Active contribution and advisory to Senior Leadership and National Director on issues pertaining to staff engagement
  • Ensures senior and cross-functional teams have broad understanding of how communications integrates with and strengthens organizational strategy, programming, operations, resource acquisition, and support functions.
  • Staff across the organization are increasingly engaged and inspired, mobilized for strategy, ministry execution, and impact
  • Develop and manage plan to train and position senior leaders as thought-leaders in the public via digital, media, and event opportunities
  • Lead development of plan, in partnership with People and Culture, to train all staff and leaders on relevant Reputation Risk e-Courses
  • Manage Communications & Marketing department’s input and representation in the office’s Enterprise Risk Management process and relevant committees
  • Develop and manage World Vision Ethiopia’s crisis communications plan, process, and associated trainings
  • Ensure the Integrated Communications Coordinators in Field, Technical Programs, Grants, and Emergencies (HEA), receive on-going support, capacity building, instruction and guidance from the Internal Engagement Unit
  • Lead and supervise the staff of the Internal Engagement Unit (internal, risk, executive, and strategy communications) ensuring that clear roles and responsibilities across the specialist units results in highly effective teamwork and efficient collaboration
  • Increase the quality and quantity of responsive and proactive communications projects
  • High performance of the team is ensured through the leading of; goal setting, prioritization, process management, and relationship management

  Manage key relationships with external local partners, freelancers and suppliers. 

Job Requirements

Qualifications & Experience Required:

  • 6-years experience managing communications teams, in international humanitarian and development sector, business, or creative industries
  • Demonstrated experience managing a sophisticated business or organization strategy and internal communications culture and outcomes
  • Advanced technical skills in several of the major areas of the job, such as; internal corporate communications, business and strategy communications, executive and leadership communications, risk and crisis communications
  • Proven experience of training and capacity building of others
  • Advanced level of computer proficiency, Mac and PC Experience working with children and youth
  • Degree in Marketing, Communications, Business, Media, Journalism, Arts or similar
  • Professional certifications in any of the technical areas of communications or marketing
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Thorough knowledge of the marketing, communication, and media industry
  • Thorough knowledge of international development, World Vision development practice, and marketing and communications needs

Working Environment / Conditions:

  • ]Working primarily in the head office in Addis Ababa, semi-regular travel locally and internationally will be required.

 Language Requirements

Working knowledge: professional English language required

Other local languages are beneficial
