About IPHC-E

The International Institute for Primary Health Care in Ethiopia (IPHC-E),was established in the year to become a center of excellence in primary health care. IPHC-E has four strategic themes namely National PHC support, Global PHC support, PHC knowledge generation and management and Advocacy and Partnership. Two of the four strategic themes involve building capacity through training and designing/delivering courses. The National PHC support engagement areas include building leadership and governance capacity, PHC improvements and PHC innovations. The Global PHC support orchestrates the support provided to other low- and middle-income countries. Its engagements include designing and providing courses/training for other countries, providing remote and onsite technical support in strengthening PHC.

Job overview

IPHC-E is strengthening its online training capacity and now seeking a junior instructional designer who will assist the online training manager in digital training programs design, development and delivery processes. The ideal candidate will have a track record in designing and developing effective online training programs for national and international stakeholders. This role will encompass analyzing digital training needs, working with SMEs in e-course designing and development, authoring digital course contents and uploading courses to LMS.

We are looking for someone with in-depth knowledge of e-course design models, multimedia design, administering courses in learning management systems, and excellent written and verbal communications skills.

Key responsibilities

The junior E-Learning developer will mainly serve as an instructional designer and work on the development of interactive and engaging digital courses using a wide range of course authoring tool. He or She will have also the following specific responsibilities

  • Assess digital training needs and characterize potential audiences
  • Work with subject matter experts on analyzing contents and designing storyboards of training courses
  • Develop e-sessions using standalone course authoring tools and integrated tools on LMS   
  • Develop course evaluation tools, conduct evaluations and use the results to improve digital learning programs
  • Assist structuring and administration of courses in LMS
  • Provide technical assistance to learners and other users in LMS
  •  Assist hosting and moderation of webinars and other live learning events
  • Assist the development of new ways of capacity building through e-learning
  • Assist in administration of other knowledge sharing platforms like Community of Practice platforms
  • Provide advice on online training for colleagues
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the online training manager of the institute and involve on other institute activities 

Reports to: Online training manager of the institute

Contract Term: One year with possibility of extension

Job Requirements

Experience, competencies, and qualities

  • BSc Degree and above in Health science, health professional’s education, instructional design, and any other relevant discipline.
  • At least 2 years’ experience in an instructional designer, e-learning developer, and digital learning coordinator role
  • Experience of designing and developing e-courses.
  • Knowledge of learning management systems (LMS) such as Moodle
  • Excellent editorial skills – able to turn complex material into engaging content.
  • Demonstrated expertise in working with subject matter experts and ability to facilitate collaboration
  • Able to work with multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary teams
  • Video editing and Graphic designing skill is a plus
  • Fluency in English
  • Strong interpersonal verbal and written communication skills
