 Summary

The U.S. Mission in Addis Ababa/Ethiopia is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the position of Carpenter Supervisor. The work schedule for this position is Full Time (44 hours per week)

Start date: Candidate must be able to begin working within a reasonable period of time (4 weeks) of receipt of agency authorization and/or clearances/certifications or their candidacy may end.

 Duties

Under the supervision of the Residential Maintenance Supervisor, the incumbent performs supervisory duties in and on U.S. Embassy controlled facilities. Incumbent supervises 9 (nine) Carpenters who work on Carpentry projects in chancery and leased residences under the control of the Embassy. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring the quality of work performed by the team, inspecting facilities for carpentry-related issues and observing contractor work for reporting back to the FAC office. The incumbent also performs journeyman carpentry work. Incumbent serves as an incidental operator of official vehicles and meets all requirements outlined in 14 FAM 433.

Job Requirement

EXPERIENCE: A minimum of (3) three years of work experience in a maintenance field, such as carpentry, or a related discipline, with a focus on work experience in the carpentry field is required. In addition, the incumbent must have at least one year of supervisory experience.

EDUCATION: Completion of Secondary School and two (2) years technical school with certification as a journeyman Carpenter are required.

LANGUAGE: Level 3 (Good Working Knowledge) Speaking/Reading/Writing Amharic is required. (This may be tested)

Skills and Abilities:

  • Must be able to use Microsoft Word and Outlook to prepare emails, EPRs and other documents
  • The incumbent will be a skilled troubleshooter well versed in the operation and usage of the required tools and equipment needed to perform the duties
  • Basic arithmetic skills required for determining the correct dimensions, sizes, and angles when performing carpentry work. Must be able to lift 60 lbs items
  • The incumbent should have ability as a resourceful technician capable of keeping equipment and systems operational under adverse conditions
  • The incumbent must be able to work through others by delegating and following up for proper supervision of those personnel working on the supervised team
  • The incumbent must be able to communicate clearly with residents, other employees, and supervisors as well as work in sometimes stressful situations to complete tasks
  • Must have a valid and current Class 2 driver’s license
  • Must have had a valid driver's license for a minimum of five (5) years. (These may be tested)
