Job Description

Role PURPOSE

The successful candidate will be expected to support the development and delivery of a high-quality outcome that has at its center a commitment to ensure that girls, boys, women, men, people with disability and people from minority groups benefit equally from the PlayMatters project efforts. The Intern will provide strategic input and advice on gender across the work of the project and will work within objective teams to ensure that gender and inclusion aspects are mainstreamed across the project activity processes such as content development, Illustration, advocacy and communication, MEAR and research. He/she will assist the project team in reviewing documents and providing inputs so that the outcome is gender aware and inclusive.  

Dimensions of the Role

  • Work within the PM project team, in reviewing Contents, monitoring testing process, ensuring illustrations advocate gender equality, encourage male-engagement, challenge gender stereotypes, ensure inclusivity.
  • Participate in project team’s planning, implementation, MEAL and reporting activities and ensure that a sound gender content is integrated.
  • Support in the development of gender-sensitive training orientation materials, adapt existing training resources and support their integration into internal and external training initiatives.
  • Routinely use the gender handbook and monitor the progress in gender mainstreaming by using the checklist in the gender handbook.
  • Provide advice on appropriate gender sensitive indicators in the project framework and support colleagues in the monitoring and reporting of program results/outputs and objectives against agreed indicators.
  • Identify gaps and provide support in staff capacity building which includes training for staff, system actors and user groups regarding gender mainstreaming and inclusion aspects.
  • Monitor and analyze project items at national level through gender lens
  • Participate in MEAL activities such as tool development, tool testing processes, testing/piloting and assessments and ensure the gender and inclusion components are integrated across all the processes

Job Requirements

Education, qualification, knowledge and experience.

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Gender Studies, Sociology, or related fields of social sciences
  • Excellent English both written and verbal

Relevant Experience:

  • Practical knowledge of gender mainstreaming across cross cutting sectors mainly in education system
  • Excellent skills and demonstrated experience of using MS Office
  • Knowledge and understanding of the institutional, legal and policy frameworks at national and local level that impact on the status of girls, boys, women, men, people with disability in Ethiopia
