Job Description

Responsible for:

  • Facilitating the establishment of beneficiary targeting committee based on the direction given by Woreda food security task force, in consultation with relevant Plan staff and appropriate woreda stakeholders.
  • Conduct sensitization of the project objectives and results to concerned kebele, community leaders, beneficiaries and other relevant stakeholders.  
  • Facilitate the necessary field work to carry out beneficiary selection in collaboration with woreda and kebele food security task force.
  • Facilitate and support community apple mechanism to ensure transparency and accountability
  • In collaboration with woreda agriculture office facilitate and organize training for kebele development workers or extension workers
  • Facilitate the transportation of inputs from woreda center to each distribution sites    
  • Conduct frequent monitoring of project beneficiaries.
  • Facilitate and conduct monthly meeting with kebele leaders and beneficiaries
  • Work closely with the project coordinator, the program area support staffs particularly with the logistic, finance and HR. 
  • Take special responsibility to facilitate participation of women, children and community at every steps of the project design/planning, implementation and monitoring cycle.
  • Ensure the mainstreaming of children and people with disability needs in the emergency WASH project services.
  • Ensure quality and timely reporting and documenting of project activity including preparation of weekly, monthly and quarterly project progress report.

Coordination and networking

  • Participate in the emergency networking and coordination forums with local government officials, NGOs, and other stakeholders in the area of livelihood and food security to draw important lessons, information and knowledge for the project efficiency and effectiveness.    
  • Ensures that Plan International’s global policies for Child Protection (CPP) and Gender Equality and Inclusion (GEI) are fully embedded in accordance with the principles and requirements of the policy including relevant Implementation Standards and Guidelines as applicable to their area of responsibility. This includes, but is not limited to, ensuring staff and associates are aware of and understand their responsibilities under these policies and Plan International’s Code of Conduct (CoC), their relevance to their area of work, and that concerns are reported and managed in accordance with the appropriate procedures. 

Job Requirements

Educational Qualification and Experience:

  • Bachelor of Degree in plant science, horticulture, agricultural extension and related field from recognized university with at least 3 years relevant experience in livelihood and food security out of which a minimum of 1 years Emergency project experiences being an NGO employee.
  • Demonstrated experiences in community mobilization and participation in livelihood and food security projects.

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of the livelihood, food security and employment interventions
  • Knowledge of community mobilization and participation in the development project
  • Knowledge of project cycle management and right based community development programming
  • Knowledge of effective participatory Monitoring, Evaluation and lesson learning systems and in the process of project cycle management.

Skills Specific to the Post:

  • Excellent interpersonal skill, including the ability to build relationship with colleagues
  • Good written and spoken of the local language (Amharic) and English
  • Strong negation, influencing and problem solving skill

Competencies and values:

  • Extremely flexible, able to work independently, and have the ability to cope with stressful situations and frustrations
  • Ability to relate to and motivate local staff effectively
  • Good organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Ability and willingness to work in remote and challenging environments

Physical Environment and Demands:

The incumbent will spend much of his/her time in the community where much of the project activities will be implemented

Level of Contact with Children:

Low contact: No contact or very low frequency of interaction
