Job Description

INTERNAL/EXTERNAL VACANCY

FH Ethiopia is a non-governmental organization engaged in relief and development activities. At FH, we operate under a set of guiding principles we call the “The Heartbeat”. FH Ethiopia would like to invite potential Internal and external candidates to apply for the following position: 

Position:  Livelihood Officer(ICD)

Duty Station: Shebedino Project (Sidama)

Duration of Contract:        One-year contract (Renewable with 60 days probation period)

Closing date:               December 24, 2021

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

Responsible for the implementation of livelihood Development and Income Diversification activities planned to be performed according to the document signed between Food for the Hungry Ethiopia (FHE hereinafter) and the regional government based on the donor requirements.

ESSENTIAL TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Key Result #1- Specific Responsibilities

  1. Prepares plan of action and budget for the component;
  2. Introduce the target community with better means of production, gives awareness creation trainings on the importance of improved seeds;
  3. Encourage the use of traditional small scale irrigation practice by diverting water from rivers and give awareness creation trainings on how and what to produce;
  4. Establishment of fruit nursery sites; follows up its managements, distribution of seedlings to beneficiaries and status of seedlings after distribution.
  5. Prepares training curricula and organizes training manuals for all the trainings under the component,
  6. Conducting fruit production and saving habit trainings,
  7. Providing vegetable and fruit seeds and various cuttings timely.
  8. Submits performance evaluation results of staff under his/her supervision on time;
  9. Prepares and timely submit periodic reports of the component to the immediate supervisor;
  10. Conduct monthly review meetings with center supervisors, and social workers   

Key Result #2- Planning and Reporting

  1. Prepares annual plan of action with other staffs for the component;
  2. Prepares monthly, quarterly, bi-annually and annual reports (for Head Office, BoFED, DPPC and NOs) including impacts, problems encountered and solutions proposed and submits to the project manager on time.
  3. Prepares beneficiary profiles and other success stories and submits to project manager

Key Result #3- Resource Management

  1. Responsible for the effective and efficient management of all assets of the organization entrusted to him for work purposes.

Key Result #4- Monitoring and Evaluation

  1. Ensures that the component activities are being implemented in accordance with the project annual operational plan.
  2. Observes any changes within the project for impacts (both positive/negative) in the community and records them for self-monitoring and evaluation.

  • Through observation, interviews, and spot-checks, ensure that the staff planning process is gender sensitive.
  • Build a better gender balance in staffing through affirmative action.
  • Observe if women staff are as involved as men in high-profile activities such as interaction with visitors and chairing meetings, and take corrective action if warranted.
  • Encourage female staff to participate in external networks (local and regional), as well as seminars and cross visits.
  • Facilitate open and regular discussions with staff on about the work environment, policies, and values convenient to gender issues.

Safety & Security Responsibility

  • Encourages compliance of Safety and Security principles and policies of the organization by all staffs;
  • Visiting project Offices and operational areas periodically to meet staff and making sure that all staff members are aware of the safety and security procedures;
  • Explains to staffs the reasoning behind the organization’s safety and security policies and procedures
  • Organizing local training sessions, such as First Aid, Fire Safety, and Defensive Driving for staff members. If possible, he/she should conduct briefing and training sessions himself/herself;
  • Ensures that safety and security objectives are added to performance reviews and evaluations of all staff members;
  • Encourages staffs to adopt safe and secure practices. Ensuring that updated personnel information related to safety (Record of Emergency Data) and security management are kept in Human resources.

Job Requirements

Requirements:

  • Education -   BSc Degree in Agriculture or relevant field of study.
  • Experience-  3 years related experience in a relevant position Preferably in INGO Setting

Distinguishing Competencies

  • Strong computer skill and knowledge in the area of MS word, MS Excel, MS Access, PowerPoint and email communication
  • High level of initiative takin

Language

  • Proficiency in both spoken and written English. Ability to write reports and business correspondence. Knowledge of local language of the intervention area is preferred.
