POSITION:   Agriculture Production Officer

Duty station: SPIR II Zonal office (West Hararghe, Habro)

Strengthen PSNP Institutions and Resilience II (SPIR II) is a 5-year USAID/BHA funded Resilience Food Security Activity (RFSA) led by World Vision and including consortium partners CARE, ORDA and IFPRI. World Vision and its partners will create a strong, shock responsive ecosystem of public, private, and community level actors to support PSNP households to graduate from poverty and sustain income and food security gains in 17 targeted woredas in Amhara and Oromia regions. Building from key formative and research studies during an initial refinement period, SPIR II will use continuous learning to drive program level reflection, analysis, and adaptation.

Purpose of the position:

The purpose of the Agriculture Production Officer is to oversee designing and implementation of Agriculture Production (Crop and Livestock) interventions of SPIR II, and provide technical support to improved productivity for identified agricultural commodities for the target communities. The position holder will lead the design, planning, implementation and provide continuous technical guidance and capacity building support to woreda level staffs, partners and program participants. Together with Market Linkage Officer, the incumbent will support identification of market oriented agricultural commodities, conduct value chain assessments, and related studies in SPIR II implementing woredas including Boke, Daro Lebu and Habro.

Major Responsibilities:

  •  In close collaboration with Market Linkage Officer, assist design and implementation of zonal and woreda level gender and nutrition sensitive, and youth and women friendly agricultural value chain assessments, and other studies
  • Participate in and develop annual, quarterly, and monthly implementation plans for agriculture production interventions
  • Ensure implementation of agricultural production interventions proceeds according to approved plans
  • Support external and internal project reviews for higher-level reflective practices
  • Identify potential capacity building needs of the staff, partners, and community, and organize/ facilitate trainings on relevant agricultural production related topics 
  • Prepare and submit high quality reports (monthly, quarterly, and annual) using appropriate reporting formats
  • In collaboration with MEAL staff, and Market Linkage Officer, ensure that profiles, and progresses of agricultural VC participants are continuously captured, monitored and documented, and communicated using appropriate VC tracking tools
  • ·Ensure that regular review meeting and discussions are facilitated as per the schedule
  • Support organization of zonal and woreda level learning events (MSPs, B2B meetings, Forums) and proper documentation of the lessons.

Job Requirements

Qualifications: Education/Knowledge/Technical Skills and Experience

 Required Professional Experience:

  • 5 years related work experience for BSc and 3 years related work experience for MSc holders in supporting designing and implementation of agriculture or relate programs
  • Combined practical work experience in agronomy and livestock production

Desired:

  • Experience in private and or NGO sector

Qualification required:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Agriculture (agronomy or livestock), Rural Development, Agri Business, or other closely related field. 

Preferred Knowledge and Qualifications:

  • Ability to facilitate and encourage collaborative teamwork, experience sharing, effective problem solving and conflict resolution
  • Proficiency in computer (Word processing, Excel; database management)
  • Ability to identify and propose solutions and innovative strategies
  • Excellent written and verbal communication in English Language
  • Firm belief in teamwork, gender equality, and participatory approach and sustainable development

Working Environment / Conditions:

  • The position requires ability and willingness to travel within the Zone and woredas for up to 40% of the time.
