Job Position: Seed Potato Project Coordinator

Job Purpose:

Seed Potato Project Coordinator role is to work closely to improve seed potato production and productivity in the designated districts with especial emphasis in sustaining the outcome/output delivered through the previous two projects. The primary role of the project coordinator would be calibrating stakeholder’s engagement, community mobilization, and capacity building activities and enhance the production of seed potato through the already established Seed multiplication cooperatives. The project coordinator will be responsible to oversee and manage the overall implementation of the project at target wereda’s (Banja Shikudad and Jabi tehnan) in Amhara region and expected to coordinate, guide and lead all Woredas level relationships and interactions with the partners and stakeholders. She/he is expected to manage and engage actively in operationalizing the project at the Woredas and field level.

She/he will work in close coordination with government staff to smoothen the daily operation of project and coordinate effectively with economic development, livelihood and related interventions. This position requires a good understanding and exposure of multifaceted and complex nature of seed potato project components, interaction with Regional, Zonal, Woreda’s stakeholder and ensure the project deadlines and reporting are well addressed according to the work plan. He /she is also required to demonstrate the strong leadership to diverse stakeholders with a commitment. The position will be based in Weredas coordination office with frequent travel to the field offices at Woreda’s and CPO and HO.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Plan, facilitate and undertake integrated project implementation of seed potato Project sustainability activities, (both by allocating project budget and sustainable development activities of the community) within the project areas and to ensure outcomes/outputs are reached to realize the project goal on time and within budget allocated.
  • Manage overall project staff, financial and activity implementation and to ensure these are effectively undertaken according to the plan & organizational policy.
  • Lead, promote and encourage a collaborative and respectful working culture between local stakeholders, including government line bureaus at grass root levels and other NGOs, GOs.
  • Ensure that different activities are implemented in a way to ensure sustainability by mobilizing community, local gov’t resources and local wisdom.
  • Network with relevant government bureaus, offices, FBO and CCCs in the project area to expedite project implementation and facilitate experience sharing within and outside the area.
  • Ensure the quarterly, biannual and annual plan and report undertaken as required to pace forward to the desired goal,
  • Coordinate and manage tools are developed and utilized as needed, such as market surveys, focus group discussions, and for collecting data from project components​ of the economic and social aspects
  • Work in collaboration with teams under this unit as well as other units in at the most professional manner as​deemed necessary.

Job Requirements

Qualification: BSc or MSc in Agriculture, rural Development, NRM, Project Management, Development studies and related fields.

Experience: 6 years and above in Agriculture, livelihoods or economic Development projects. It is preferable to have seed potato projects experience.

  • Demonstrate depth of experience and effectiveness preferably in NGO context in working with community at grassroots level and organizations in sustainable economic development.
  • Thorough understanding and experience in Results-Based Management, staff capacity development, development of community capacity and community-based organizations, linking of professional, academic and community-based learning models
  • Familiarity with developmental theory, poverty analysis and livelihood security frameworks; Value Chain Development, Making Markets Work for the Poor, Participatory Rural Appraisal/Participatory Learning & Action, Appreciative Inquiry, etc.
  • Excellent local verbal and written communication skills
  • Technical training qualifications required Project management, Commendable knowledge of Livelihood projects, marketing and related project interventions trainings
  • Complete compatibility with WV’s mission, ethos, policies and Core Values
  • A strong aptitude for organizational change, participatory and servant leadership, innovation, learning, team building
  • Keen sense of justice and gender equity
  • Full ability to communicate cross-culturally and be cross-culturally sensitive

Full computer and Internet skills including word processing, graphic presentation and spreadsheet programs required. 

  • BSc/MSc in Agriculture, rural Development, NRM Project Management, Development studies and related fields.

Working Environment / Conditions:

Office Based base 75% Travel 25% to project site
