Main purpose of the job

To manage all farming activities such as planting, cultivation, protection and harvesting techniques, post-harvest management… to achieve crop and soil productivity goals and objectives

Main responsibilities 

• Assists in developing new methods of growing crops to secure more efficient production, higher yield, and improved quality
• Assists in planning and budgeting of the annual agricultural crop production activities
• Handles demonstration trials on new varieties, agronomic and other farm technologies to improve crop performances
• Arranges training to farm supervisors and assistant supervisors (Kabo) on improved production practices of mandate crops and managements of soil
• Plans with crop protection the removal of weeds and pests from the cultivated areas on time
• Ensures that land preparation, plantation, and post plantation activities have been properly carried out
• Assists farm manager and unit managers on the planning and implementation of major farm activities
• Ensures that all the activities have been carried out as planned
• Keeping detailed records regarding fields, crops, and agronomic activities
• Record and secure data of the annual farm production process…

Job Requirements

Knowledge, skills, and experience required

• BSc in Plant Science, Agronomy and Crop Production
• At least 5 years work experience (working in the coffee plantation is a reward)
• Excellent theoretical knowledge and practical skills in agronomy and other farm technologies
• Practical experience in commercial farms
• Physically fit to work in farm fields for extended periods
• Excellent report writing and communication skills
• Good understanding of traceability, branding, and organic farming principles
• Basic IT literacy skills
• Certification on special agronomic modeling applications is a reward…
