REPORTS TO: Director, Disablity Rights and Rights of Older Persons

DURATION: One year of Contract from the time of Employment

SALARY RANGE: Gross monthly salary of ETB 22,014.00 - ETB 26,219.00 plus ETB 6,000.00 Housing allowance and ETB 1,500.00 Transport Allowance , depending on candidates qualification, experience and earning history

Purpose of the Job

Conduct research on disability rights and rights of older persons and plan and implement monitoring of inclusive schools and retirement homes to ensure the promotion and protection of persons with disabilities’ and older persons’ rights.  

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

•  Design, implement, monitor and evaluate programs and projects on the promotion and protection of persons with disabilities and older persons human rights;
• Lead monitoring of inclusive schools and retirement homes;
• Conduct research on disability rights and rights of older persons as appropriate;
• Propose new research focus areas that are pertinent for promotion and protection of disability rights and rights of older persons
• Lead on fact-finding missions and investigation into human rights abuses, including systemic human rights violation on persons with disabilities and older persons, including through close cooperation with relevant stakeholders, human rights actors and the community with the aim of promoting and protecting their human rights or seeking remedial actions by relevant authorities to prevent similar violations from occurring in the future;
• Support collaborations with international and regional human rights systems in general and more specifically in relation to persons with disabilities and older persons to follow up on recommendations and regular reporting on the human rights situation of persons with disabilities and older persons to relevant international and regional human rights treaty bodies;
• Contribute to and/or draft various human rights reports, communications ;
• Perform additional assignments and delegations given by the Director.

Job Requirements

Qualifications and Experience:

• MA in Human Rights, International Law, law (Public Law relevant to human Rights).
• Candidates with bachelor of Law (LL.B) but with exceptional experience can be considered.
• 5 years of relevant experience for MA.
• Fluency in Amharic and English is required
• Computer Literate
• Knowledge of other local languages is advantageous
