About GAIN

The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) is a Swiss-based foundation was launched at the UN in 2002 to tackle the human suffering caused by malnutrition. Working with both governments and businesses, we aim to transform food systems so that they deliver more nutritious food for all people.

GAIN has been re-registered and accorded legal personality with re-registered and accorded legal personality with registry Number 2896 by Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia Agency for Civil Society Organization. GAIN in Ethiopia is working on different project on nutrition.

Expanding the work, GAIN is in the process of starting a new project which focuses on food safety. The project is anticipated to be launched in January 2022. For this reason, GAIN will organize an event which serves as an important milestone to ensure participants/stakeholders understand the program and what is going to be implemented. The professional photographer will play an important role in documenting this event with high quality photos.

The objective of the event is to launch the EatSafe program. The launching event will be held in Hawassa town in January 2022 (exact date to be determined).

Duty and Responsibilities

The photographer with work under the overall supervision of EatSafe team. During a half day even, he/she is expected to carry out the following tasks:

 Before the event:

  • The photographer is expected to have a meeting/briefing with the respective program team before the event to discuss on the workplan.
  • The contractor must have good command of own photographic equipment (cameras, lenses, lights, filters, tripods), as well as photo-related image editing software. 

During the event:

  • The photographer is obligated to attend at least 1 hour before the event started and stand by until the session of the ends
  • Photographing various aspects of the event
  • The photographer is expected to show appropriate sensitivity towards the people they are photographing.

After the event:

  • File organization and uploading, properly name, organize and upload all captured content to a cloud-based platform to allow GAIN team, to access and download for use
  • In addition to supplying photos, the photographer will also be required to submit photo captions. The captions should include names of subjects included in the photo and organization, and description of the photo. 

Deliverable/Expected outputs:

The photographer will provide the following delivering/outputs.

  • Good quality still photos from the event
  • The final sets of edited digital images (including caption information) will be delivered on portable storage devices /emailed (as requested) to GAIN
  • The photographer is expected to select at least 50 best quality photo from all the photo shots
  • He/she is also expected to deliver the photos to GAIN with in 5 days after the date of the event.
  • All photo taken during the events will only be delivered to GAIN and can not be used for other purpose.

Job Requirements

For this assignment, GAIN Ethiopia requires a photographer with the following experience and technical capacity:

  • Excellent photography skills
  • Ability to provide own photography equipment, including professional cameras and related equipment
  • Qualifications as professional photographer and a demonstrated minimum of 2 years’ experience as professional photographer, including coverage of public event
  • Good knowledge of technical requirements and settings for taking photos in various settings (i.e., outdoor, indoor, portraits, group activities etc.)
  • Experience with INGOs will be an asset
  • Proven experience in working with Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premier Pro, Final Cut etc.
