About GAIN

The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) is a Swiss-based foundation was launched at the UN in 2002 to tackle the human suffering caused by malnutrition. Working with both governments and businesses, we aim to transform food systems so that they deliver more nutritious food for all people.

GAIN has been re-registered and accorded legal personality with re-registered and accorded legal personality with registry Number 2896 by Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia Agency for Civil Society Organization. GAIN in Ethiopia is working on different project on nutrition. Expanding the work,

GAIN is in the process of starting a new project which focuses on food safety. The project is anticipated to be launched in January 2022. For this reason, GAIN will organize an event which serves as an important milestone to ensure participants/stakeholders understand the program and what is going to be implemented. The Master of Ceremony will play important as an anchor of information that provides all workshop-related information to the participants, ensuring that the workshop runs without glitches.

The objective of the event is to launch the EatSafe program. The launching event will be held in Hawassa town in January 2022 (exact date to be determined). 

 Duty and Responsibilities 

The Master of Ceremony will work under the overall supervision of EatSafe team. During a half day even, he/she is expected to carry out the following tasks:

Prior to the event: 

  • Be familiar with EatSafe Program and details of all parts of the program of the launching event.
  • Be familiar with the speakers and VIP guests, in the opening program and speakers, their bio data and their names.
  • Define the plan or strategy he/she will use to run the session, ensuring an interesting exchange of information with the active participation of the audience.  

During the opening program:

  • The Master of Ceremony is obligated to attend at least 1 hour before the event started and stand by until the session of the ends
  • Provide a brief background about the event
  • Introduce each of the speakers and VIP guests highlighting most significant info in their CV and other event-related individuals in an honorable fashion
  • Announcing upcoming sessions and providing brief information about those sessions

Before and During the Presentations:

  • Introduce the presenters and topic of the presentation with a brief background information
  • Monitor the time and give the signal of the remaining time to presenters as needed
  • Open the floor to the audience for questions, remarks, comments, etc.
  • Ensuring seamless transition between sections/sessions of the program, including reminding all parties about the time limit.

End of the Event:

  • Express gratitude to the speakers, VIP guests and participants
  • Invite everyone for the cocktail/lunch

Deliverable/Expected outputs:

  • Leading the program competently as per the requirements stated.

Job Requirements

  • Organization skill, experience in planning and group management
  • Sense of humor is an absolute must
  • Punctual time management
  • Impeccable professional communication skill
  • At least 2 years of experience in managing a formal and informal ceremony with similar high-level events is required,
  • Excellent spoken English and Amharic
