Overall Role and Responsibility

The Senior Humanitarian Programme Manager has responsibility for leading on strategic planning, context analysis, technical advice, partnership management, the assessment of programme proposals and monitoring of humanitarian programmes.

Applicants will need to demonstrate that they have a well-established track record of excellent performance working on Humanitarian Assistance programmes and policy. Candidates should be familiar with humanitarian principles and international standards (e.g. SPHERE), and in addressing challenges to effective humanitarian response in the Ethiopian context.

Job Requirement

  • Postgraduate qualification (master’s level) and a minimum of 5 years progressively responsible management experience in areas of relevance to the requirements of this position (e.g. humanitarian, protection, shock responsive systems, etc.).
  • The candidate must provide evidence of their knowledge of the determinants of good governance, gender equality and human rights and their application and relevance to the political and governance context, especially familiarity with key national policies, institutions and programs delivering on humanitarian response in Ethiopia.
  • The candidate must demonstrate using examples of working in some priority areas (education, agriculture, private sector development, human rights, climate resilience, gender and governance).
  • The candidate should provide examples of being solutions-oriented, and committed to delivering results and taking responsibility for quality outcomes.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of leading strategic planning and monitoring/evaluation/learning initiatives resulting in well-defined and achievable workplans, strategies and analysis.
  • Demonstrable experience (through examples) of financial analysis and budget management at a management level.
  • The candidate must demonstrate using work based examples of providing excellent interpersonal & communications skills, being persuasive, working in a team but also dealing effectively with people in external organizations;
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint; additional IT applications would be beneficial (e.g. working with datasets);
  • The successful candidate must have a legal entitlement to live and work in Ethiopia prior to recruitment.

Terms and conditions of employment:

  • The Senior Humanitarian Program Manager position will be appointed initially on a three-year fixed term contract.
  • The salary for the position is €2,752.88 per month, paid directly to a bank account therefore the successful candidate must have a bank account.
