WGGA Eye Center is a full service multi-specialty practice located in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Established in 2012, we have expanded to a group of ten certified Ophthalmologists, an Ophthalmic Medical Technologist and nine Optometrists. Our compassionate experienced team is dedicated to providing high quality eye care in Ethiopia that strives to exceed your expectations.

Job Summary

Under the supervision of the nursing and education units the Ophthalmic nurse promotes and restores patients' health by completing the nursing process; collaborating with physicians and multidisciplinary team members; providing physical and psychological support to patients.

Detail Duties and Responsibilities:

• Facilitate the surgical process to make the surgery quality effective as well as comfortable.
• Provide patients with basic education about OR Procedure
• Assist the doctors during the surgical process.
• Gather patients’ medical histories and monitor patient’s vital signs to detect anomalies
• Report any incident of problem in a timely manner to the supervisors.
• Prepare patients for surgery
• Adhere to safety standards and precautions, support to ensure that there is high standard of hygiene & sanitation in the center.
• Conduct eye examinations if needed
• Inspection of the external appearance of the eyes , the eyelids, the lashes and the skin surrounding the eye
• Visual acuity testing if needed
• Ensure patient are treated respectfully at all times.
• Make sure all medical equipment is ready and clean,
• Apply mydriatics to those who needs before surgery
• Monitor patient flow & handling agitated patients, facilitate sharing of lessons with the nursing staff.
• Ensure standards of patient care, patient monitoring and clinical records are adhered to and are of the highest quality and in line with best practices,
• Exhibit personal leadership, take initiative,
• Develop, couches and monitor Junior & senior nursing staff,
• Promote good working relationships with all staff working within and in support of the service, develop team spirit.
• Collaborate with nursing staff in the coordination of patient care & ensure that nursing care services are meeting patient needs
• Act as a role model to support members of the nursing team 
• Assist in the OPD when required,
• Ensure patient are treated respectfully at all times.
• Perform other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor.

Job Requirements

Education

• BSc degree or Diploma in similar area (clinical Nurse)

Experience

• 2/4 year of relevant work experience in OR (Operation theater)

Technical and other skills

• Ability to work under pressure
• Good communication and presentation skills
• Has good skill in assisting the Doctors during eye-surgery(Ophthalmic cases)
• Well organized and ability to act in a professional and ethical manner
• Ability to analyze and solve the problems
