Job Description

Purpose of the Job

Conduct the day-to-day monitoring activities related to Human Rights in the different sectors and at different levels, for the promotion and protection of refugees, IDP’s and migrants rights.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Director to develop advocacy and campaign plan and engagement strategy on priority human rights issues;
  • Conduct awareness raising and campaigns on refugees, IDP’s and migrants human rights to ensure adherence to national and international protection standards and guidelines;
  • Design, implement, monitor and evaluate programs and projects on the promotion and protection of refugees, IDP’s and migrants human rights;
  • Conduct assessments, identification, and mappings of refugees, IDP’s and migrants’ protection needs.
  • Assist in the execution of refugees, IDP’s and migrants legislative and policy initiatives.
  • Communicate with and influence a range of external stakeholders and advocacy targets including the Government and relevant authorities on the basis of identified gaps for the effective promotion and protection of refugees, IDP’s and migrants human rights and to give them voice.
  • Support in conducting research and analysis to formulate advocacy briefs and calls for the promotion and protection of the refugees, IDP’s and migrants human rights.
  • Support in conducting legal review in relation to refugees, IDP’s and migrants to write advocacy and campaign messages and materials for amendment or enactment of laws to ensure compliance with constitutional, international and regional human rights standards.
  • Organize and manage advocacy and campaign events; initiate nationwide and regional movement to advocate and campaign for the promotion and protection of refugees, IDP’s and migrants human rights, including the ratification and implementation of relevant international and regional human rights instruments.
  • Ensure mainstreaming of refugees, IDP’s and migrants as relevant in other EHRC’s advocacy and campaign;
  • Ensure the integration of gender perspectives, with specific attention to issues related to refugees, IDP’s and migrants;
  • Contribute to building capacity, knowledge, values and standards based on identified needs of both governmental and non-governmental national stakeholders on refugees, IDP’s and migrants rights.
  • Coordinate the follow up of the implementation of recommendations, general comments and concluding observations of international and regional treaty bodies that are related to the rights of refugees, IDP’s and migrants at the national level;
  • Support in managing close relationships with relevant national and international stakeholders to advance cooperation and collaboration, including other NHRIs and international and regional human rights networks.
  • Support the identification and assistance of capacity building needs of both governmental and non-governmental national stakeholders on children’s rights.
  • Participate in discussion forums set in institutions and organizations, including other NHRIs for joint programming, sharing of experience and promising practices, regarding the promotion and protection of refugees, IDP’s and migrants rights in their policies and organizational operations.
  • Keep the Director informed with regular detailed and accurate reports on progress and challenges in advocating and campaigning for the promotion and protection of refugees, IDP’s and migrants rights conducted by the Team.
  • Undertake other duties and tasks deemed necessary.

REPORTS TO: Director, Refugees, IDPs and Migrants

DURATION: Open Contract

SALARY RANGE: Gross monthly salary of ETB 19,157.00 - ETB 22,817.00 plus ETB 6,000.00 Housing allowance and ETB 1,500.00 Transport Allowance , depending on candidates qualification, experience and earning history

Job Requirements

Qualifications and Experience:

  • MA/BA Degree in Law, Human Rights Law, International Law. Candidates who doesn’t have Law or Human Rights studies but with exceptional practical experience can be considered.
  • 4 years of relevant experience for BA, and 2 years of relevant experience for MA.
  • Computer literate.
  • Knowledge of Amharic and English is required.
  • Knowledge of other local languages is advantageous.
