 International Medical Corps in Ethiopia has been operational since 2003. Presently, International Medical Corps Ethiopia is implementing WASH & Nutrition, GBV, SRH and Mental Health in different parts of the country.  

Main duties and responsibilities:

Overview

Senor Emergency Health Response Officer is supporting the EHR coordinator in facilitating and implementing overall health and MHNT intervention of planned project activities in filed site. Provides routine technical support for MHNT on day-to-day implementation of life saving PHC services. Support EHR coordinator in a day-to-day program intervention and Prepares and submits reports regularly to immediate supervisor. S/he will also closely work with filed finance, logistic and other program peoples for successful implementation of health and nutrition programs.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure that the planned activities are implemented according to the work plan within the planned budget with good quality as per the national and IMC standards
  • Facilitate trainings, workshops and other meetings.
  • Serve as emergency health resource person at field sites next to EHR Coordinator.
  • Consult and work with EHR coordinator, government health workers and field staff in the treatment of health emergency cases and malnourished children.
  • Ensure strong linkage of health components with other components of the project such as livelihood, nutrition, WASH and disaster prevention and preparedness.
  • Responsible for the emergency health response intervention at the project sites under his/her supervision.
  • Create smooth relation and collaboration with Government stakeholder.
  • Prepare detailed implementation plan and share with all woreda base staffs
  • Ensure implementation of all health planned activities upon expected quality and schedule at all levels.
  • Support facilitation of review meeting to identify project gaps and successes.
  • Undertake assessment to identify gap and status of PHEM and surveillance at each woredas by engagement of Health and nutrition supervisors.
  • Provide technical support for IMC MHNT staffs and government health workers on proper implementation of the service.
  • Participate on joint supportive supervision by involving the key health partners at zonal and woreda level.
  • Represent IMC in any PHEM meeting organized at project site as per the need.
  • Prepare and provide regular Bi-weekly and monthly progress report with approval of the EHR Coordinator.
  • Perform other duties as assigned. The duties and responsibilities listed above are representative of the nature and level of work assigned and are not necessarily all inclusive.

Required Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

  • Ability to cope with stress; hardship; patience and flexibility
  • Strong communication skills, with excellent written and spoken English. Advanced proficiency in the use of MS Office, Email and other computer applications
  • Able to establish and maintain healthy working relationships with colleagues in course of work
  • Willingness to work additional hours in order to meet tight deadlines
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret data and familiarity with nutrition surveys (Coverage, standard and KAP surveys)
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability and willingness to travel and work in rural areas where the project is implemented
  • Demonstrated experience and skills in responding any disease outbreaks
  • Ability to effectively work with government, community leaders, international/national organizations, donors, partners and other International Medical Corps relationships

Job Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS: (Training/education/experience/physical demands required)

  • MPH with health background and have 2 years of related experience in NGOs.
  • Bachelor degree in Public health, Nursing or related field of study with 4 years of experience in field.
  • Experience on emergency PHEM and emergency health response through MHNT, BCC and intervention like major epidemic diseases surveillance and epidemic/outbreak investigation and response
  • Excellent computer skills, including all Microsoft applications
  • Training on PHEM
  • Experience of facilitation of training review meetings and workshops
  • Ability to develop good team spirit and support field staff
  • Experience on budget and manpower management
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English
  • Ability to work independently and under tight deadlines
  • Knowledge of the respective site language
