We are pleased to announce the following vacancy for Specialist BSS within Technology Function in Ethiopia. In keeping with our current business needs, we are looking for a person who meets the criteria indicated below. 

Detailed Description 

Reporting to the Head of Customer Systems and Billing, the Specialist BSS Engineer shall provide technical expertise in BSS solutions systems planning, software release management, capacity management, architecture design and evolution especially towards cloud & micro services, budgeting (CAPEX &OPEX), as well as articulating technical proposals for development and implementation for all BSS Products & Services offered to Safaricom customers with a goal of executing the IT strategy plan. BSS systems include, but not limited to CRM, Billing, Number Management, Order Management, Voucher Management, Number Management, Provisioning, Subscription Management and Backup solutions.

Job Responsibilities 

  • Provide technical expertise in planning and design for new BSS solutions or optimization of existing solutions in line with the IT strategy execution plan.
  • Actively participate and provide professional expertise in defining strategy, roadmaps, architecture design and evolution especially towards Cloud & Micro services or applicable technologies.
  • Drive implementation of BSS solutions and integration to various network elements
  • Timely delivery of project plans and architecture designs with the goal of ensuring high quality standards are met and solutions are operationally viable.
  • Responsible for ensuring BSS systems are running n-1 release (latest stable release) through effective software release management plan and security patch vulnerability execution plan.
  • Enhance processes and DevOps to improve delivery and increase efficiency by focusing on continuous improvement and optimization.
  • Financial planning: Providing input towards effective financial planning for both CAPEX and OPEX with the goal of delivering cost efficiency in Charging and Billing domain. 

Job Requirements

  • BSc Degree in Telecommunication Engineering, Electrical & Electronics engineering, Computer Science or IT related fields
  • 5 years’ experience a busy telecommunication/ IT environment or Software Engineering with good knowledge in planning for BSS Solutions such as CRM, Billing, Voucher Management
  • Proficiency in networking protocols – TCP/IP, professional certification e.g. CCNA/CCNP or equivalent is preferred.
  • Working knowledge in Unix systems and Databases – Oracle, MySQL.
  • Expertise in various analytics tools such and Python, Standard Query languages, Procedural Programming languages, Linux/Unix, scripting,
  • Deep understanding of 3GPP protocols and interfaces
  • Excellent systems analytical and communication (written and verbal) skills along with meeting facilitation skills
  • Domain experience in GSM and IT is a must
  • Broad technical expertise combined with business acumen and strong consulting skills.
  • Excellent communication skills - must be able to listen to customers, document requirements quickly & accurately, and review written materials for accuracy. Must also be able to communicate specifications to persons at all technical levels.
  • Proven track record for delivery of large scale, complex projects delivering IT/Telco customer solutions; demonstrable leadership skills and organizational experience.
  • Ability to communicate and influence others.
  • Ability to drive initiatives without any formal authority in an ambiguous and startup environment.
