Job Title: Intern – Social Media  

Position Type: Temporary

Reports to: Knowledge Management, Communication and Gender Advisor

Posting Location: Addis Ababa

Duration: 3 months

Background:

John Snow, Inc. (JSI) is a public health management firm, headquartered in the United States, dedicated to improving the health of individuals and communities throughout the world. JSI has been implementing public health work in Ethiopia for over 25 years.

JSI is implementing the five-year Digital Health Activity in Ethiopia, which is funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). The purpose of this Activity is to support the Government of Ethiopia (GOE) to improve the quality of health services and create a sustainable health care system through the use of data for decision making, as well as to provide similar services to other countries in Africa or to respond to a crisis in Ethiopia (as needed). The primary objectives of the Activity are to 1) support information technology systems and data repository at all levels; 2) build a culture of data use; and 3) improve capacity and governance of MOH health information systems management.

DHA wants to develop and implement a social media strategy to promote and advocate Digital Health activities in Ethiopia. This will include developing a detailed social media strategy and action plan and then proceed to implementation.

Major responsibilities:

DHA plans to provide the successful intern with a progressive educational experience by assigning them to work in teams with varied dynamics and strong technical skills. The scope of this internship program will be to develop a detailed social media strategy and action plan and then proceed to implementation.

The activities of the interns will be overseen by the Strategic Information team locally and at home office and will be closely monitored by the team that they are assigned to work with. They will report to the team lead that they are assigned to work with.

Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Establish SMART social media goals.
  • Develop a content strategy.
  • Measure the progress.
  • Audit the social media presence.
  • Refine your strategy accordingly.

Job Requirements

Qualifications:

  • BSc Degree in Marketing, Communication, Journalism, Social Sciences, or any other related field.
  • Excellent knowledge of social media platforms
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Sense of responsibility and confidentiality
  • Excellent Computer skills (MS Word, MS power point, MS Excel, knowledge of using social media platforms, etc.)
  • Knowledge of graphic design software (Photoshop, Indesign, Illustrator) is an asset
  • Excellent command of spoken and written English and Amharic
