We are pleased to announce the following vacancy for Specialist: Data Center Planning and Energy Engineering within Technology Function in Ethiopia. In keeping with our current business needs, we are looking for a person who meets the criteria indicated below. 

Detailed Description 

Reporting to Manager – Data Center and Energy Engineering, the role holder’s responsibilities will be;

• Datacenter, Strategy, Planning and Engineering
• Site Energy Strategy Planning and Engineering (Cooling, and Power)
• To drive the energy efficiency agenda.
• To drive standards and processes aimed at excellence and best practices

Job Responsibilities 

• Develop and Implement Data Centre and Energy Strategies
• Create and oversee the implementation of short and long-term data center strategy
• Create and oversee the implementation of short and long-term projects and strategies that increase energy efficiency, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and minimize unnecessary consumption. Implement energy-related cost-saving measures and achieve set targets on the same.
• Perform Energy Audits
• Regularly perform energy audits to help monitor performance with respect to energy consumption, come up with improvement plans to drive efficiency and ensure implementation of the same. Central coordination of energy audits done by partners and colleagues will also be required.
• Design
• Oversee design of energy (cooling included) solutions for various infrastructure projects and integration with other key services such as fire systems, access/security control amongst others. Continuous optimization of site designs to improve efficiency will also be required. Ensure that system efficiency is maximized.
• Manage Energy Management and Sustainability Policies, Standards, and Guidelines
• Manage policies, standards and guidelines to help drive the sustainability agenda with respect to energy management. Ensure end to end stakeholder buy-in and adherence.
• Work closely with assigned company sustainability officer for reporting
• Measurement of Carbon footprint
• Validate carbon footprint input data. Calculate carbon footprint monthly and highlight improvement areas. Ensure that set targets are met.
• Energy Committee
• Being part of Energy Committee and ensure that its objectives are all met
• Develop, implement and continuously review energy policy and implementation programs.
• Ensure compliance with statutory regulations in energy matters
• Align the organizations energy practices with best practices globally.

Job Requirements

• First Degree in Electrical or Mechanical from a recognized University.
• Registration with relevant government professional body in charge engineering is desired.
• Post Graduate training in Energy or Professional certification in Energy such as Certified Energy Manager (CEM) or Certified Energy Auditor (CEA) or Certified Measurement and Verification Professional (CMVP).
• Over 5 years of work experience in renewable energy and/or energy efficiency including designs and operations of which 3 years must have been in a telecommunications environment.
• Electrical design experience in a telecommunications and IT data center environment is an added advantage
• Experience in greenhouse gas inventories/reporting is a plus. 
• Strong management and organizational skills
• Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities in a fast paced environment and consistently meets deadlines
• Strong negotiation and influencing skills at multiple organizational levels
• General understanding of the energy market
• Knowledge of relevant legislation governing energy efficiency and carbon emissions/environment
