Summary: 

  • The U.S. Mission in Addis Ababa/Ethiopia is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the position of Guard Shift Supervisor position.
  • The work schedule for this position is Full Time (48 hours per week)

Start date:

  • Candidates must be able to begin working within a reasonable period of time (4 weeks) of receipt of agency authorization and/or clearances/certifications or their candidacy may end.

Duties

Provides daily assistance with operational and administrative supervision to Local Guard Force (LGF) guards stationed on the U.S. Embassy compound, Peace Corps compound and the General Services Office (GSO) Warehouse. Directly supervises all Mobile Patrol Drivers and Local Guards. Reports to the Shift Supervisor. Provides administrative support for the LGF program to include daily assignments for all United States Government (USG) compounds, Mobile Patrol units, and off-compound USG residences.

Qualifications and Evaluations

Experience:

  • At least 2 years of previous work experience as a Guard with the U.S. Embassy Addis Ababa Local Guard Force.

Education:

  • A high/Secondary school diploma is required
  • Note: Please upload all copies of your Education under "High School Diploma or equivalent"

LANGUAGE

  • Level 3 (Good Working Knowledge) Speaking/Reading/Writing Amharic is required and Level 2 (Limited Knowledge) Speaking/Reading/Writing English is required. (This may be tested)

SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 

  • Ability to use state-of-the-art security and radio communication equipment
  • Must have the ability to organize, lead, and train compound guards under his/her supervision
  • Ability to understand the security control panel and to operate emergency alarms and the public address system
  • Possess local driver’s class II license. (This may be tested)
  • Ability to use Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
  • Ability to use fire extinguisher & ability to use personal protective equipment (i.e. PR-24, straight batons, pepper spray, handcuffs, and flexi cuffs, etc.).

The pay plan is assigned at the time of the conditional offer letter by the HR Office.
