Job Description

World Vision Ethiopia (WVE) is an International Humanitarian Christian Organization whose objective is to provide holistic and integrated development and emergency response programs in the country. WVE Central Regional Office has an immediate opening for a person who fulfills the following qualifications.

Purpose of the position:

Re-greening Africa Project officer  will serve as AP level project office mainly responsible for leading the day-to-day operational activity of the project. As project officer will endeavor his/her technical and managerial skill in scaling up re-greening options communal and farmland FMNR, Agroforestry, tree planting and others through provision of technical service to key stakeholders, as well as leading the advocacy and knowledge management function in the intervention area. Added to this the project officers in collaboration with other partners will apply re-greening mobile application for area delineation and reporting.

Major Responsibilities:

Delineating operation area using GPS, map, establish shape file, facilitate community bylaw, make sure ownership towards sustainability, and engage in community mobilization

Advocacy on sustainable natural resources (water, soil & trees) management and its link to sustainable land management and livelihood improvement

Integrating with sponsorship and other livelihood and re-greening projects and closely work with designate woreda and kebele sector staff and administration as well as other contributing partners towards leveraging resources and increasing outcomes

Integrate and Execute tree based value chain such as; energy efficient cooking stoves, beekeeping, tree/ fruit seedling, pole and furniture productions to ensure HHs livelihood options

Creating platform, leading platform, engaging and network with relevant government offices, FBO and CBO in the AP area and ensure inclusive and bottom up growth

Work closely with the TP environment & climate change technical Team to prepare training document, Demonstration site, collaborate with local Government for field visit and scale up best practices in the existing projects

Actively participate in local networks in landscape restoration to raise the profile of FMNR, and the work of WV Ethiopia

In collaboration with WV Environment & climate change technical team, provide face-to-face training(F2F) training on FMNR for staff and volunteers of local partners.

Create/Strengthen private, group and government nurseries, ( rural resource centers) RRCs to contribute to the regreening and empowering women and youth.

Enhance project sustainability and smooth handing over to local partners.

Ensure to prepare, and submit quarterly, biannual and annual plan and report activities undertaken as required to pace forward to the desired goal.

Maintains detailed schedules of activity and budget implementation tracking systems for activities monitoring and budget utilization of the AP.

Prepare various donor/government reports as per the standard.

Participate in project evaluation, monitoring and date collections, analysis and reporting

Regreening mobile APP modules ( nursery, FMNR, tree planting and training )utilized and restored areas delineated.

Facilitate and conduct trainings and/or capacity building on conceptual understanding of the FMNR and sustainable land management and undertake other related tasks as appropriate.

Ensure mainstreaming the project into relevant cross cutting issues/Gender, Disability, Protection, Peace Building, job creation etc.

Job Requirements

Qualifications Required

  • Qualification: Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Marketing’s, Economics, MBA, Project Management, Development studies and related fields.
  • Experience: 5 years and above for particularly in Economics, marketing, MBA, Project management, Development studies and related tasks
  • Experience and effectiveness preferably in NGO context in working with community/grassroots people and organizations in sustainable economic development
  • Knowledge of ILaNS TP PM (BSL/LVCD, SG, BF, MFI,) and coordination and integrations are highly required
  • Technical training qualifications required: Project management, Economic Development, Livelihood, Marketing and related project interventions
  • Thorough understanding and experience in Results-Based Management, staff capacity development, development of community capacity and community-based organizations, linking of professional, academic and community-based learning models
  • Familiarity with developmental theory, poverty analysis and livelihood security frameworks; Value Chain Development, Making Markets Work for the Poor, Participatory Rural Appraisal/Participatory Learning & Action and Appreciative Inquiry
  • Technical Training qualifications required:  value chain development approach, marketing, entrepreneurial skill and related income generation activities.
  • Strong understanding of sustainable economic development and the ability to conduct research and studies
  • Basic computer and Internet skills including Micro soft Word, Excel, Power Point, Publisher and Graphics presentation  
  • Excellent local verbal and written communication skills

Additional Requirements:. 

Required Qualification: BSc Degree in NRM/Forestry/Agro-Forestry

Preferred: MSc Degree in Natural Resource Management, Agriculture, Forestry and a related field.

  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of work experience in NRM/Forestry/Agro-Forestry, FMNR experience is preferable

Technical Skills & Abilities:

  • Computer Skill, Proven experiences in working with community and diverse sector offices.
  • Effective in written and Verbal communication in English and Afan Oromo
  • Motor Bic Driving license is as an additional requirement

Language proficiency: 

  • Language Ability to communicate well in English & Local language (Afan Oromo and Amharic) required

Working Environment / Conditions

  • 75% Office based, 25% frequent travel to project site
