SECONDARY GIRLS BOARDING SCHOOL TEACHING VACANCIES

The Pharo School Homosha is inviting teachers passionate about their subject and profession to apply for a teaching position to start in September/October 2021. We seek compassionate, hardworking and resilient individuals capable of dealing with challenges of living and working in a Boarding School in a remote location. We really value our teachers as professionals and there is great emphasis on allowing teachers the space to deliberately improve their practice through tailored CPD and external subject-specific training.

Applicants should possess a commitment to helping students achieve high academic and pastoral standards in a lively and engaging manner- whilst integrating differentiation and a range of learning styles into their daily practice. Due to visa restrictions, we can only appoint local teachers or teachers of dual citizenship with Ethiopian nationality.

 ABOUT THE PHARO FOUNDATION

The Pharo Foundation is a private foundation based in the United Kingdom and established in 2011. Committed to the development of Africa, the Foundation has been supporting projects in the Horn of Africa since its establishment. Our projects contribute towards increasing access to education, agriculture, health and water in order to help improve individual / people’s livelihoods.

ABOUT THE SCHOOL

The Pharo School Homosha is currently one of our largest education projects, located in the Benishangul Gumuz regional state of Ethiopia. Extending over 3.4 hectares, the school is the first of its kind in the region; a modern fully-fledged campus with a 240 girls’ boarding capacity, aiming to offer the best educational and boarding opportunities to bright and driven girls from across the region.

We follow the Ethiopian National Curriculum with aspects of International best practice. Our focus on female education is in recognition of the challenges in accessing education, which prevents many from unlocking their full potential. This shapes Pharo School Homosha’s vision of achieving all-round academic and personal development of girls to reach their highest potential and become future leaders and role models.

The Head of School is a UK qualified and experienced educationist and an International School Inspector. He has been teaching for over 20 years in International Schools across the globe. Our Deputy Head of School is a qualified and experienced teacher who has experienced Senior Leadership roles in International Schools

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  •  Follow professional practices consistent with school and system policies working with students, students’ record, and colleagues.
  •  Interact in professional manner with students, parents, staffs and school leaders.
  •  Act in confidential, ethical, and legal manner and being role model.
  •  Ensure and keep timely preparation and application of annual plans, weekly and daily lesson plans as required by the school policy.
  •  Motivate students and inspire continuous learning.
  •  Assigned reasonable tasks and homework to students.
  •  Custodian of the School’s calendar.
  •  Always strive for the best student’s learning outcomes.
  • Prepare materials to reinforce the regular classroom lesson under the Head teacher’s direction.
  •  Strive to develop respect among student, parents, and school leaders.
  •  Shows curtesy, integrity and follow-up at for all assigned tasks.
  •  Demonstrate an effort of knowledge, skill and attitude.
  • Maintain confidentiality of students’ records.
  •  Engage actively in implementation of school co-curricular and social support activities.
  •  Demonstrate and understanding of the community and parental role in the education of children.
  • Any other duty as assigned by the supervisor

SALARY AND BENEFITS

The salary and benefits package is competitive and will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Accommodation and meals (while school is in session) are provided

Job Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

These positions are open to male and female applicants, with female applicants being strongly encouraged to apply. Applicants must demonstrate proof of eligibility to work in Ethiopia.

 WE SEEK TEACHERS WHO:

  • Have, at minimum, a Bachelor Degree in subject teaching area
  • Have a recognized teaching qualification
  •  Have a minimum of 3 years teaching experience
  • Fluent in Amharic
  • Experienced in Formative Assessment, CAT4 Assessments and using data to enhance their teaching and learning
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, Email usage, Google Suite, internet searching and willing to learn new computer skills
  • Experienced working in International School or high standard local schools
  • Develops lesson plans which meet established school and national curriculum models
  • Fluent in English and can competently conduct all classroom instruction in English
  • Outstanding communicators and have strong interpersonal skills
  • Fluent in Amharic
  • Committed and passionate to teaching and highly motivated towards student development and growth
  • Willing to offer after school enrichment activities and support students after hours and on weekends
  • Active team players and problem solvers with a good sense of humor
  • Willingness to participate in inset trainings

Preference will be given to teachers who can teach multiple subjects. Single status teachers / married couples (with no school age children)
