Purpose of the Job:

To lead the delivery of human rights education and training using the best possible methodology and design a system for continuous evaluation of the programmes.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead the research and identification of various ways of delivering the human rights education and trainings including designing workshops, seminars, conferences, etc.
  • Ensure that all human rights trainers are using the approved training manuals and methodologies.
  • Deliver human rights education and training for identified groups using the prepared material and resources. 
  • Ensure all human rights trainers are trained and continuous capacity building programs are implemented.
  • Design a system of mentoring human rights officers in delivering human rights education including observing them on action and provide feedback.
  • Maintain updated central system of training schedules to monitor progress of plans.
  • Create a system to collect and analyze disaggregated data for all training programs and measure the true effectiveness of the human rights training programs.
  • Collaborate with human rights research and needs assessment and content development teams to capture feedback from trainees and improve the training programs.
  • Coordinate with relevant thematic functions in identifying trainees and to use thematic experts in human rights education as needed.
  • Revise existing human rights education delivery mechanisms in line with the strategic objectives of the Commission.
  • Monitor the progress of human rights education delivery activities against the financial plans/budgets.
  • Coordinate different functions of EHRC for integrating and supporting each other in trainings to optimize training costs.
  • Identify opportunities benefitting EHRC’s Human Rights Education Department’s program improvement, revision, drive changes and enable better performance tracking and reporting capacity.
  • Support in managing close relationships with relevant national and international stakeholders to advance cooperation and collaboration, including other NHRIs and international and regional human rights networks.
  • Participate in relevant working groups/committees, staff meetings.
  • Ensure that roles, responsibilities and reporting lines are clear to each staff member and regularly discuss performance and provide feedback and coaching to staff.
  • Submit regular reports of the Function to the Director and other relevant organs.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by supervisor.

LOCATION : Head Office

REPORT TO : Director, Human Rights Education

DURATION : Open Contract/indefinite period

DIRECT REPORTS  : Human Rights Officers, Associate Human Rights Officer

SALARY RANGE : Gross monthly salary of ETB 25,756.00- ETB 30,676.00 plus ETB 8,000.00 housing allowance and ETB 1,900.00 transport allowance depending on candidates qualification, experience and earning history

Job Requirements

Qualifications and Experience:

  • MA Degree in Human Rights Law, LL.M in Human Rights, LLM in International Law, LLM in Law (Public Law relevant to Human Rights). Candidates with Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) but with exceptional experience can be considered.
  • Training on educational pedagogy or curriculum development is a plus.
  • 6 years of relevant experience with MA including experience in management of resources.
  • Computer literate. 
  • Knowledge of Amharic and English is required. Knowledge of other local languages is advantageous.
