Job Description

Project Mercy Ethiopia is an international non-profit humanitarian organization working in different regions of Ethiopia to improve the well-being and livelihood of people in rural communities. We are seeking to hire an experienced, highly motivated and qualified person to fill the position of an Accountant. 

Principal Duties includes:

  • Reconciling the Organization's bank statements and Peachtree ledgers
  • Payroll processing
  • Performing month-end closings 
  • Completing analysis of the employee expenditures (specially purchaser)
  • Petty cash document checking
  • Managing income and expenditure accounts
  • Generating the Organization's financial reports using income and expenditure data
  • Filing and remitting taxes and other financial obligations
  • Initiating and managing financial and accounting software used by the organization
  • Post journal entries for accrued expenses and revenue
  • Assist with the preparation of financial statements
  • Perform any other duties related to the post.

Job Requirements

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Personal Attributes:

  • Experience with accounting software and data entry
  • Excellent understanding of accounting rules and procedures including the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Advanced knowledge and experience of spreadsheets, Peachtree, and MS-offices
  • Ability to work independently
  • Analytical skills
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal.

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or finance

Experience:

  • 5+ years’ experience
  • Work experience in an NGO set up will be a plus
