About Us

TM Geothermal Operations Plc (TMGO), is wholly owned by TM SAS, a Paris registered company, which in turn is owned by the Shareholders Reykjavik Geothermal Ltd (RG), an Icelandic based Geothermal developing company, and Meridiam, a French based global investor and asset managing company, for the development of a geothermal power project in the area of Tulu Moye in Ethiopia, which has signed a Power Purchase Agreement and Implementation Agreement with EEP and the Government of Ethiopia for the project in December 2017.

Tulu Moye is located approximately 120 km south-east from Addis Ababa, relatively close to major markets for electricity. The intention is to develop a 520 MW geothermal power plant over four phases, with this first phase being a 50 MW Plant. Overall the development program is 7 year 9 months in duration with Phase 2 being for an additional 100 MW, Phase 3 being 100 MW and Phase 4 being 270 MW (the “Project”).

About the Position

The Water Engineer will undertake a wide range of technical and non-technical duties in their role of supplying, managing and maintaining clean water and sewage/wastewater services and preventing flood damage.

The Water Engineer will also be responsible for designing pump systems, pipelines and treatment plants also work on flood control projects and help map out drainage systems for dealing with water flow. They will also work on fresh water supply systems, such as those used for drinking water.

 Key Responsibilities: 

  • producing designs, both initial outlines and full plans, of sewerage, water treatment and flood defence structures such as pump systems and pipe networks
  • managing and maintaining water and pipeline, sewerage infrastructure operations
  • producing designs - initial outlines or full plans and presenting project design details and technical information to colleagues and clients
  • designing sewer improvement plans or flood defense programs, and associated structures, such as pumping stations, pipework and earthworks (the scale may range from an initial outline to a full, detailed design)
  • monitor the progress of projects from beginning to end - from design through to construction and handover - or supervise one section of a large project
  • control budgets at project level
  • writing reports
  • keeping up to date with changes in regulatory legislation and guidelines
  • liaising with clients, contractors, government agencies, local authorities and suppliers
  • monitoring flood levels
  • supervising staff and site workers
  • using a variety of specialist computer applications/simulation software
  • ensuring that projects keep to budgets and timescales
  • maintaining an awareness of current environmental issues.
  • Conduct site inspections, of known development sites, provide direction to site personnel on traffic, public land use and environmental issues as required.
  • undertaken in order to ensure own safety and that of others in the workplace.
  • Follow defined information management practices, policies and procedures for all records created and received.
  • Responsible for and actively involved in identifying and managing risk in day to day activities and projects.
  • Provide other support services and duties as needed and assigned.

 Reporting to: Project Leads Consultant/ Deputy Chief Technical Officer

Job Requirements

Qualification and Experience

  • BSc Degree in Engineering Water Supply and Sanitation or Hydraulic Engineering
  • More than 7 years of working experience in construction/ Energy project or related field
  • Preliminary experience on project design is required
  • Knowledge of written and spoken English and Afaan Oromifa languages
  • Strong Communication and persuasive skills with Credibility and Integrity
  • Quick Decision-making skills and execution of task to meet deadlines and budgets
  • Collaboration management; critical thinking abilities; oral, written, and graphic communication skills; and knowledge of construction contract documents are required
  • Willing to work with people with demonstrable ability to develop effective partnership and experience in cooperating with contractors and at all levels within the project and its external partners and stakeholders
