Main purpose of the job

To supervise the provision of legal support to managers and staff so that the organization meets its legal obligations, and to protect its interests

Main responsibilities

• Supervise legal staff to ensure that they carry out their responsibilities to the required standards and receive all necessary training and development

• Assist in the preparation of all legal documents required by managers and staff to ensure that these are accurate and legally sound
• Provide legal advice to managers and staff on the interpretation of statutes and legal documents to ensure that the actions they take are legally sound
• Represent the organization at courts and tribunals on routine matters to ensure that the organization’s interests are safeguarded
• Draft, review, and amend legal documents drafted by, or sent to, the organization
• Monitor the progress of legal transactions to ensure that the correct actions are taken at the appropriate times
• Instruct counsel where necessary
• Maintain an awareness of developments in all legal fields relevant to the organization

Job Requirements

Knowledge, skills, and experience required

• BA degree with at least 5 years supervisory experience in business firms
• Considerable experience of advocacy
• Good supervisory and legal matters handling experience
• Excellent presentation skills
• Good negotiating and interpersonal skills
• Excellent knowledge of the organization’s work and functions
• Accuracy and an eye for detail
