Position: Education Project Assistant

Reports to: Education Team Leader 

Duty station: location in BG Metekel Zone Gilgel Beles

Duration and type of contract: From 01-06-2021– 15-11-2021 (National position)

Preferred Candidate: Candidates Resident at Assosa/Metekel Area

Roles & Responsibilities:

The purpose of the Project Assistant position is for day to day implementation of the education in emergency project across targeted schools in woredas of Metekel zone in Benishangul Gumuz region and Awi zone in Amhara region.

Generic responsibilities:

  • Prepare lists of items that need to be provided to target emergency affected children and schools;
  • Responsible for specific stationary required for training or/and workshops is available for workshop facilitator/trainer to collect;
  • Responsible for coordination with other woreda education experts and schools administrators on the education response to target children,
  • Responsible for distribution of education equipment’s, materials and monitoring of the distribution and post distribution activities to target emergency affected children and schools in Metekel;
  • Monitoring and regular follow up and reporting of the education project implementation,
  • Responsible for events or workshop venues are booked and that the necessary catering and stationary is available;
  • Responsible for lists of project supplies are regularly updated and receives appropriate follow up.

 Specific responsibilities:

  • Create smooth working relationship with woreda education office and target schools,
  • Collect, compile, analyze and share education related dates and timely report to education officer and Education team leader regularly,
  • Identify materials needed, follow up the procurement, distribution and documentation of distribution sheets regularly,
  • Prepare distribution sheets and donation certificates, distribute education related materials and equipment’s to children and target schools timely,
  • Plan and undertake post distribution monitoring for material and equipment’s provided to children and schools following the M & E procedures of NRC,
  • In collaboration with woreda education office and schools, follow up the overall school attendance of learners and support to mitigate challenges that hinders the education of children,
  • Undertake capacity building need assessment, document and share report to the office to the office,
  • Liaison the woreda education office and facilitate capacity building trainings to teachers and parent teachers association members
  • Writing compiling weekly, biweekly, monthly and quarterly reports;
  • Document and share best practices of the schools and disseminate the lesson to others for learning.

Job Requirements

Generic professional competencies:

Academic and Professional Qualifications

  • University degree in Education, Business Administration, and related field
  • Two years’ experience from working as an education expert 
  • Preferable NGO experience a humanitarian/recovery context
  • Previous experience from working in complex and volatile contexts
  • Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities
  • Knowledge of written and spoken English

 Context/ Specific skills, knowledge and experience:

  • Good interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills in Amharic, Afan Oromo and other local knowledge’s in BG
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Good cultural awareness and sensitivity
