Reporting to position: Directly to the Brewery Manager and functionally to the Op.Co. SHE Manager
Purpose of the job
- The primary function of the Brewery SHE Manager is to champion and promote occupational Safety Health and Environment awareness and monitor all safety related issues, including risk assessments and safety training across the brewery. The SHE Manager will also share best practice across the organization on Safety Health and Environment matters and disseminate information within and across the Brewery as may be deemed appropriate
Key Responsibilities
- He/she is responsible to support the Production Site Management on matters related to Safety, Health and Environment.
- He/she has to be aware of developments in local legislation, its (future) health and safety impact on the Production Site activities has to be made explicit and brought to the attention of the management.
- He/she has the responsibility to implement Global Supply Chain guidelines such as SHE Rules, Life Saving Rules, and Standards & Procedures in the Production Site.
- He/she will ensure the correct application of definitions, accurate registration and data storage.
- He/ SHE is responsible for follow up and implementation of process safety requirements
- He/ SHE is responsible to prepare annual plans and budget for safety related personal protective equipment (PPE) and manage consumptions
- He/she will Identify safety training needs, organize and co-ordinate safety training courses and prepare training material where appropriate
- Carryout regular inspections, surveys, and audits together with Supervisors and Managers concerned and formulate a plan of action to correct non-compliant behavior or conditions
- He/she is responsible to identify workplace hazards, unsafe conditions and unsafe acts, and create awareness among all employees on necessary precautions to be taken
- He/she is responsible to investigate accidents, incidents and near misses to identify the root cause and take corrective and preventative actions
- He/she will be responsible for a correct risk analysis at the brewery and set up a clear plan to close the gaps and will monitor the timely execution of activities.
- Expected to lead or support safety related projects and improvement teams
- Ensures proper implementation of safe work permits for own employees and third party contractors
- Acts as the brewery’s counterpart for safety, health and environment related engagements with third party contractors working on the brewery premises
- Manages the brewery safety induction process for visitors; also ensures that all company third party employees receive safety induction and awareness trainings on regular basis.
- He/she will be responsible for the legal compliance of the brewery in matters related to Safety, Health and Environment.
- He/she will deal with local Health & Safety and Environmental Authorities.
- He/she will be responsible to produce yearly Safety and Environmental Reports and will be accountable for the correctness of data.
- He/she will address safety and environmental non-compliances and will make proposal for improvements, also in terms of investments.
- Shall follow and implement to the brewery’s management systems rules, regulations and requirements on quality ,food safety, environmental and occupational health& safety
- Perform other tasks as assigned by line manager
Job Requirements
Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Chemistry, Industrial Engineering or equivalent.
- Awareness on Food Safety is an advantage
Experience
- Minimum 5 years of experience as Safety Officer/ Engineer in a manufacturing Company.
- Languages: Very good command of English and Amharic.
- Excellent presentation, public speaking and interpersonal skills.
- Strong computer skills, with familiarity in using Microsoft Office suite applications.
- Ability to write and create own presentations and proposals.
- Ability to handle multiple projects under deadline.
- Organized, detail-oriented, team player, self-starter and results-oriented individual.
- Good knowledge of Ethiopian legislation in Health & Safety and Environment.
- Good knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems (OHSAS 18001).
