Role and responsibilities
The purpose of the Child Protection Team leader position is to implement delegated Child Protection project portfolio
Generic responsibilities
- Line management of three CC project field staff
- Adherence to NRC policies, guidance and procedures
- Contribute to CC strategy development, project proposals and provide input on needs and gaps
- Manage, implement and coordinate Child Protection projects-activities, budget and project documentation as closely working with Child Protection Coordinator at camp levels.
- Provide regular progress reports to Child Protection Coordinator
- Ensure that projects target beneficiaries most in need of protection, explore and asses new and better ways to assist
- Promote and share ideas for improvement and necessary changes in the activities
- Liaise and collaborate with relevant local authorities and other key stakeholders
Specific responsibilities
The Child Protection Team Leader will be responsible for the coordination, supervision and support of Family-based care arrangement, Case management works, Psychosocial support, feeding Programme; and work closely Case Management Officer and Child Protection Officers ensuring good delivery of the Child Protection activities in the area of intervention
- Work closely with Child Protection Officer, Casual outreach workers (IDP), refugee incentive workers, refugee communities, children, ARRA, UNHCR and working also for the promotion of family-based care arrangements including Family Tracing and Reunification activities.
- Liaise with governmental officials-ARRA, UNHCR, camp structures and other international organizations on NRC’s child protection and other Programmes behalf at the camp level.
- Assist the Child Protection Coordinator in designing of Child Protection Programme and overall management of child protection Programmeme, including planning, implementation, monitoring and reporting, supervise and coordinate all child protection staff.
- Supervise delivery of feeding support and material distribution for children is accordance with agreed standards.
- Ensuring community participation and consultation of community structures-RCC, Child welfare committee, child right clubs in each steps of the Programme.
- Supervise work is completed in accordance with Case Management Principles and the Practical Guidance Document and new National SOPs.
- Supervise management of Child Protection Information Management Systems, Psychosocial/CFS, and community outreach awareness raising activities in the camps in accordance with setting standards.
- Collaborate with relevant partners to develop and maintain CP referral mechanism and work with NRC Programmes to develop Programme synergy at camp level
- Assist development of training materials for child protection and facilitate training and facilitate the dissemination of awareness information to refugees and engage with refugee and camp structures and group
- Maintain positive coordination and relationships with partners in the field/camps and contribute to relevant coordination mechanisms.
- Assist Programme Officers develop weekly and monthly plan for and compliance to weekly, monthly and other required report of activities
- Participate in the development of lessons learned and best practices in child protection and other Programmes.
- Ensure that all relevant financial documentation is completed accurately as required by NRC’s finance policy and procedure for incentive and other field level payments.
- Ensure all materials distribution for children/beneficiaries supported with distribution lists and report to Child Protection Coordinator at monthly base.
- Highlight any challenges or constraints to Child Protection Coordinator to address timely.
- Compile and submit all required reports and updates to the Programme Coordinator and other concerned bodies with agreed quality and time line.
- Provide technical support to case management and child protection officers in the delivery of the activities
- Coach, train, and mentor staff with the aim of strengthening their technical capacity, exchanging knowledge within the team and providing professional development guidance.
- Supervise and mentor direct-report staff, including communicating clear expectations, setting performance objectives, providing regular and timely performance feedback, and leading documented semi-annual performance reviews.
Job Requirements
Generic professional competencies for this position:
- University degree in Psychology, Social work, Sociology & etc. and minimum five or more years work experience in managing child protection Program preferably in refugee/IDP settings.
- Experience from working as a Child Protection Team Leader/Officer in a humanitarian/recovery context
- Previous experience from working in complex and volatile contexts
- Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities
- Knowledge about own manager skills/profile
- Fluency in English, both written and verbal
Context related skills; knowledge and experience (shall be adapted to the specific position):
- Knowledge of the context in operation.
- Knowledge of the Amharic and Tigrigna local language mandatory
