Position Title: Smart Start Navigator

Department/Program: AY SRH

Level: Reports to Adolescent Health Officer 

Based in: Oromia region- Yabelo Badiya, Aamaya, Bacho, Goro, Birbirsa Kojoa, Dugda Dawa, Dandi, Ejersa Lafo and Mindar Kagni Woredas 

Duration of contract: Indefinite based on performance and availability of funds.

Remuneration: As per the organization pay scale plus other PSI/E staff benefits

We are looking for a passionate Smart Start Navigator- Design, adaptation, and learning to support the successful design, adaptation, and implementation of husband engagement, economic empowerment, and community engagement, and achievement of the program objectives by (i) provide orientation for WDAs, champions, peers and male structures training on a defined curriculum within husband engagement, economic empowerment and community engagement package and using an interactive and friendly approach; (ii) equipping community team with the knowledge, skills, and mindset necessary for effective delivery of Smart Start; and (iv) enabling community team to foster and deliver adolescent-friendly interaction with and educate girls and/or couples on to openly participate and share their dreams, needs, challenges, and aspiration in the deign process.

Your contribution

You will work under the supervision of the Adolescent Health Officer. More specifically, you will:

  • Support the design program of husband engagement, girl’s economic empowerment, community engagement by selecting and mobilizing interview participant
  • Liaise, girls, couples, WDA, Male gatekeepers, and design participants during insight gathering, prototype testing, piloting, and implementation of the three solutions.
  • Follow and implement interactive, adult-centered orientation plan in the local language.
  • Facilitate orientation for the community teams based on the designed curriculum and as per the training plan.
  • Use a mix of different methodologies in the context of adult learning principles, such as illustrative lectures, large and small group discussions, case studies, brainstorming, and role-plays.
  • Work closely with the assigned AHO to achieve the design objectives and goal.
  • Introduce practical demonstration sessions as part of the orientation and harness the trainees’ skills by providing appropriate, timely feedback in the right way.
  • Build trust with girls and inspire passion and interest by incorporating practical examples to create awareness of the lives and situations of married adolescent girls in the assigned regions.
  • Submit a report on the training, incorporating the learnings and issues to consider in facilitating future training.
  • Support the HEWs and other SMART START volunteer staff on data capturing to steer continuous learning within the program.
  • Have close interaction with the community gatekeepers and the Adolescent Health Officer to meaningfully support the HEWs. 
  • With WDAs, HEWs, champions, and kebele administration pre-register and map newly married adolescent girls/couples
  • With the HEWs select, orient, and deploy WDAs, champions, and volunteers and regularly motivate them to be able to do the mobilization successfully
  • Provide TA to WDAs, champions, and peers on the mobilization of married adolescents to the smart start sessions
  • Assist HEWs and community teams on the follow up of girls or couples
  • Identify and make use of community networks to promote and test the solution
  • Conduct awareness creation in community gatherings such as Iddirs with men to ensure male involvement in FP decision-making 

Job Requirements

What are we looking for? The basics

  • Tenth (10) and/or Twelfth (12) grade completed 
  • Age 18-25 years old 

 What would get us excited?

  • Experience on adolescents and youth-focused programs
  • Ability to flexibly navigate through and make the program work for the young married couples without making actual alternation on the designed solutions
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and with limited supervision
