- The International Medical Corps (IMC) is looking for the field security officer for its emergency humanitarian support in Shire, Tigray region. The Field Security Officer (FSO) works at the direction of the emergency program field manager, and reports on technical issues to the Dansha Senior Security Officer. The primary function of the field Security Officer is to provide assistance to the field team members in Shire on all issues of safety and security. The FSO over sees daily security management in Shire as well as train staff and security guards/ focal persons on security related matters. The Security Officer will monitor and assess security conditions, and makes recommendations to the Senior Security officer in Dansha and advise the staff in the assigned area as appropriate. The senior security officer is the direct supervisor to the Senior Security officer in Dansha.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Monitor the daily security activities to ensure that safety and security policies and procedures are implemented in the assigned areas.
- Assess the security situation and gather relevant threats and risks in the assigned areas that will help to develop and update the security guidelines, SOP’s and Contingency Plans for the assigned area as well as to deter the risk threatened the staff.
- Identify security threats and advise staff in coordination with supervisors.
- Provide security training and security procedures and protocols to staff and guards in Shire and make sure they implement the SOPs.
- Take a lead on the physical safety of the IMC facilities in the assigned area.
- Report the incidents through the internal incident tracking system and ensure the staff in Shire utilize the internal incident tracking system effectively.
- When directed by the Country Security Manager, to involve in the investigations and provide the necessary support.
- Participate as a key member in the Field Incident team in Tigray and play an important role.
- Ensures logistics follows a servicing and maintenance schedule for vehicles
- Follow on the provision of communications equipment and implemented as required mainly on emergency times.
- Ensure weekly security reports are completed and report to the Senior Security officer.
- Maintain excellent working relationships with all staff and field managements as well as other humanitarian organization and partners in Tigray region.

Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse:
- Actively promote PSEA (Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse) standards within International Medical Corps and amongst beneficiaries served by International Medical Corps

- Promotes and encourages a culture of compliance and ethics throughout International Medical Corps. As applicable to the position, maintains a clear understanding of International Medical Corps’ and donor compliance and ethics standards and adheres to those standards. Conducts work with the highest level of integrity. Communicates these values to staff and to partners and requires them to adhere to these values
Job Requirements
Personal Qualifications:
- University degree in political science, social work, military science or related security fields.
- 3 progressive years in related experience and field security experience mainly in humanitarian organization is required.
- Security related trainings and experience in military and security apparatus is an advantage.
- Ability to relate to the national staff, local authorities and external partners effectively
- Extremely flexible with the ability to cope with stressful situations and frustrations
- Excellent computer skill
- Excellent Report writing skill in English Language
- Better understanding on English and local languages, Tigrigna is an advantage.
