Heavy Truck Driver Duties and Responsibilities

We are looking to hire a dedicated Heavy Truck Driver to transport various materials to and from construction sites. The Truck Driver’s responsibilities include using the cranks and levers inside the truck to unload materials, supervising the loading of materials onto the truck, and inspecting the truck for any mechanical issues before and after every trip. Role holder should also be able to safely drive and operate the truck in all weather conditions.

A typical workday varies depending on the route, but all heavy truck drivers are responsible for efficiently and effectively transporting materials from one location to another.

To be successful as a Heavy Truck Driver, you should be able to pick up and deliver materials according to a schedule. Ultimately, a top-performing Heavy Truck Driver should perform all duties in accordance with company safety rules and road safety regulations.

Transport Heavy Loads

• Transporting crushed rock, sand, and gravel or other materials to and from specified locations. They determine whether their vehicle complies with weight and height limits on bridges and tunnels and change their plans if needed.
• Ensuring that the materials are loaded correctly onto the truck.

Conduct Vehicle Inspections and Maintenance

• In this role, heavy truck drivers are also responsible for inspecting and maintaining their vehicles before driving, while on the road, and after making deliveries or on site.
• Inspecting the heavy truck before and after every trip, which includes checking the oil, gas and water levels as well as the lights and tires.
• They may also be responsible for regular maintenance, inspections, and emergency repairs.

Maintain Records

• Heavy truck drivers maintain excellent records of materials picked up and delivered, along with KM driven, tolls paid, and other activities while on the road. For long-haul drivers, this also includes maintaining records of stops and keeping detailed records of KMs driven.

Plan Routes and Schedules

• A heavy truck driver also needs some level of familiarity with their route so they can make adjustments while driving.
• Heavy truck drivers also need to report any accidents or delays to their supervisors and keep detailed records of vehicle maintenance, inspections, and repairs to ensure that their trucks remain safe and legal to drive.
• Complying with all safety rules and regulations.

Job Requirements

Qualification

• 10^th grade & or Valid level 4 Driver’s License.
• Proven 8+ years experience operating a standard heavy truck.
• Clean driving record.
• Working knowledge of construction site, safety, truck maintenance, and local road safety regulations
• Effective communication skills

Driving and vehicle operation – a heavy truck driver safely operates and maneuvers a truck carrying heavy loads; a clean driving record, the ability to drive for hours, and excellent driving skills are necessary.

Route logistics – heavy truck drivers are comfortable planning and altering routes to make deliveries and pickups efficiently and according to schedule.

Vehicle maintenance – heavy truck drivers have a solid grasp on vehicle inspection and maintenance, ensuring their trucks remain safe and efficient while conducting deliveries

Time management – managing a schedule is important for heavy truck drivers
