About the Organization

VisionFund Micro Finance Institution (S.C) is an Institution established according to proclamation No. 40/96 to provide financial services to the productive poor in the rural and urban areas of Ethiopia. VisionFund is currently operating in four of the Regional States of the country.

VisionFund MFI is currently looking candidates to fill the vacant position of Area Operation Manager for South Area Operation Office. The successful candidates will have skills and experience that meet the following requirements.

Major Duties and Responsibilities are:

The sound extension, monitoring and documentation of branch operations within the area:

  • Exchanges information with the General Manager, Operations Manager, and other departments and secures an adequate information flow within the area;
  • Recommends to the SMT any proposed major changes on branch offices or infrastructures, such as relocation, renovation, etc.;
  • Monitors loan collaterals submitted by clients; and as recommended by the branch, controls and facilitates the selling of these collaterals in coordination with the institution’s legal officer;
  • Oversees the implementation of the internal control systems, ensuring the smooth running of the business and safeguarding the institution’s assets; Follows-up with the concerned branch manager(s) any actions required from the branches as recommended by the audit findings;
  • Ensures compliance to all existing regulations
  • Ensures that policies and procedures are applied consistently and uniformly across all branches in the area
  • Plans and ensures the implementation of an adequate and timely reporting system with focus on each branch’s asset quality, liquidity, capital adequacy, and provisioning;
  • Submits periodic reports to the Operations Manager

The efficiency of branch operations:

  • Undertakes and facilitate development of annual plan and budgets for branches, 
  • Supervises the day-to-day branch operations through the Branch Managers to ensure that the targets set and agreed upon are met; 
  • Coordinates with the Finance & Accounts department and branch managers to make sure that there is appropriate branch liquidity management;
  • Coordinates with the HR department in planning personnel need and capacity building of the branches, 
  • Consults with the MIS/ IT department any monitoring or reporting related issues, and resolves the issues at the soonest time possible;

Maintaining the quality of the loan portfolio of the MFI within the area:

  • “Champions” the efforts in managing loan delinquency by closely monitoring the branches and ensuring strict compliance to all policies and procedures;
  • Responds and actively manages branch operations outside of acceptable levels.

Maintain the deposit level of the branches within the area:

  • “Champions” the efforts in mobilizing savings from the public;
  • Ensures the existence of quality customer service at branch level.

Management of the staff in the region:

  • Ensures that the operations staff receive adequate training; Participates in development/ reviews of curriculum for training of the Credit Officers; Collaborates closely with Training Officer in matters of training new and in service operations staff (Credit Officers, tellers and Branch Managers) 
  • Principal advisor of the Operations Manager on all matters relating to the Operation of the Branches within his/her Area.

Integration and Marketing: 

  • Ensures a strong integration and networking with Primary partners, local authorities and sectoral line relevant departments. 
  • Ensures development of suitable products.
  • Ensures undertaking of client satisfaction surveys, likes and dislikes and focus Group discussions on a regularly basis.
  • Ensures expansion of branch offices in compliance to branch office opening, procedures and standards.
  • Ensures delivery appropriate reports to the partners, local authorities and other Partners.

Any other duties that may be assigned by the Operations Manager

  • Acts as an alternative to the Operations Manager in the latter’s absence

Job Requirements

A minimum university degree in Economics, Accounting, Management, Banking, Cooperative, Agricultural Economics or relevant social sciences, business fields and prolonged experience in credit and preferably deposit operations

Must have at least 8 year working experience out of which 3 years in supervisory position in credit and saving operations (e.g. branch manager) in a combination of the following: micro-enterprise lending organization, banking institution, a progressive corporate environment, international business, or economic and business development institution

Competence:-

  • Must have a clear understanding of micro finance industry and technology
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft applications
