Job Description

Job Summary

Ellilta Women at Risk (EWAR) is a legally registered local charitable organization established 24 years ago seeking to provide holistic alternatives for sexually exploited individuals through relationship-based recovery that leads to freedom and restoration in all areas of life in four sites across Ethiopia: two in Addis Ababa, one in Bahir Dar, and one in Adama/Nazret (situated along the major trucking route to the Djibouti port). After 24 years of service, EWAR has reached over 1,300 women, 90% of whom have NEVER returned to the streets for commercial sex.

EWAR also works through two other strategic avenues to holistically address the issues surrounding commercial sex.

  1. Intervention: this arm of EWAR focuses on the children of the women in the program to break the cycle of generation-linked exploitation, abuse, and poverty by helping them with schooling; providing medical care; and offering various other outreaches as necessary.
  2. Prevention: this work focuses on building partnerships with community leaders, government officials, teachers at local schools, and church leaders, including Ethiopian Orthodox Churches in Addis Ababa and Evangelical Churches in Adama. These partnerships have magnified efforts around EWAR’s works to transparently impart relevant messages to the general public in order to prevent commercial sexual exploitation and curb the demand and supply facets of it. In these works, EWAR provides information to boys, girls and young women, helping them assess their own risk levels and empower themselves with basic life skills to tackle the challenges they would face in their lives, especially the ones that might pull or push girls and young women into the sex industry before it becomes reality.

Ellilta Women At Risk (EWAR) is looking for a consulting firm to run a research project to be implemented in 3 major cities of Ethiopia, namely Addis Ababa, Adama and Bahir Dar. The research aims at finding out the current state of Affairs of prostitution, commercial sexual exploitation, including the number of women in the industry, related human trafficking, the pulling and pushing factors, parties promoting and discouraging prostitution, modalities of commercial sexual exploitation and policy frameworks thereof.
