Job Summary

Position: Food Security and Livelihood Officer

Reports to: FSL Coordinator

Supervision of: NA

Duty station: Bambasi & Gure Shombolla

Required number:  2 (Two)

Duration and type of contract: 9 month with possibility of extension

Roles & Responsibilities:

The purpose of Livelihood Project officer position is to implement the livelihoods intervention of the different projects in NRC Benishangul Area Office and assist the livelihoods project coordinator in planning and executing programme activities. The project officer will provide capacity building training in market information, chain and trend analysis, provision of business mentorship, promotion of Micro Enterprise Development (MED) and the like to beneficiaries and stakeholders in accordance with the project proposals and work plans.

Generic responsibilities:

  • Ensure adherence with NRC policies, tools, handbooks and guidelines
  • Implement delegated support function portfolio according to plan of action
  • Prepare and develop status reports as required by management
  • Ensure proper filing of documents
  • Promote and share ideas for improvement of the support function

Specific Responsibilities

  • Plan, facilitate and conduct trainings on conceptual understanding of business and market development and capacity building for beneficiaries and stakeholders
  • Provide technical support and applicable tools to project participants in identifying demand based potential and demand based production / products and developing business market development plans
  • Support beneficiaries in promoting business and market development on the identified potential products and services
  • Support and follow up livelihood teams in conducting value chain analysis for potential products in their respective refugee and host locations
  • Facilitate smooth networking of the livelihood targets with micro financing institutions for financial services that enhances business activities;
  • Follow up & monitor implementation of livelihood activities as per the plans
  • Participate in assessment, design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation processes of the various intervention activities of the program.
  • Prepare and develop status reports as required by management
  • Ensure proper filing of documents
  • Ensure that projects target beneficiaries most in need, and explore and asses new and better ways to assist
  • Promote and share ideas for technical improvement

Job Requirements

Qualifications and Competences:

Professional competencies

  • A University Degree in Agriculture, Agricultural Economics, Economics, Business Administration, Sociology, Psychology & related field with minimum of three years’ relevant experience in planning, managing, coordinating, and supervising livelihood projects such as business development and marketing, value chain analysis, entrepreneurship small interpose development
  • Experience from working as a Project Officer in a humanitarian/recovery context
  • Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities
  • Good knowledge of English both written and spoken
  • Demonstrated understanding of the cooperatives and small enterprise development policy and practices in Ethiopia,
  • Demonstrated high level of conceptual and analytical thinking skills and excellent strategic program development skills in areas of economic development,
  • Skilled trainer with experience developing and delivering training to a varied audience, such project staffs, stakeholders, national staff and authorities.
  • A firm grounding in program activity Monitoring and Evaluation,
  • Strong proposal and project report-writing and team building experience and skills

Context/ Specific skills, knowledge and experience:

  • Knowledge of the livelihood context (gaps and needs) in Bambasi & Gure Shombolla camps.
  • Experience in organizing association, interest groups, self-help groups, and working with a community based approach, Skills & Personal Attributes
  • Stress resilient, team oriented, oral communication, structured and result oriented;
  • Flexible and with ability to take initiative and inspire others;
  • Ability to work both independently and as a team
  • Manage performance to optimize results
