Purpose of the position:
Manage and coordinate the overall drilling operation including water well drilling, water quality test, pumping test works and data analysis, electromechanical installations including pump and power source installations (e.g., Generator and /or connection with the local electric utility grid) to run water supply systems, and help achieve water supply and sanitation coverage for the unreached communities and/or improve the service level with the regional/local government together with meaningful community participation.
Major Responsibilities:
- Manage and coordinate the overall drilling operation, including well drilling, water quality test, pumping test, and electromechnical works/installation (pump installation, and power source connection with either generator or local power source);
- Prepare annual drilling operation plan and budget, water quality test, pumping test, pump installation, follow up its implementation and prepare reports,
- Engage in and network with government and other stakeholders, WVE HO Divisions/Departments, CPOs and APs in the area of drilling operations;
- Review activity vs. budget plan in annual, biannual, quarter and monthly basis.
- Make sure and follow up the required drilling supplies and spare parts for the rigs and trucks are in stock;
- Plan, organize and ensure the periodic and annual services of drilling machines, compressors and trucks;
- Ensure the groundwater development is in compliance with community needs, donor’s requirements, WV and government policies and national and global standards;
- Engage in and ensure that appropriate tools like Performance management , coaching and mentoring etc. are practiced within the department to enhance smooth staff relations and accountability;
- Promote major cross cutting themes including environment, gender, child protection, disability and peace building.
Job Requirements
Minimum education, training and experience requirements to qualify for the position:
- Education: Master of Science Degree (M.Sc.) or Bachelor of Science Degree (B.Sc.) in Hydrogeology or Geology or Applied Geology from a recognized institution,
- Experience: 7 years for M.Sc and 11 years for B.Sc with minimum of 4 years at senior position in water well drilling woks and management in governmental, private and /or international NGO (mandatory to have proven experience in water well drilling as a manager),
- Proven experience in drilling resources supply and management, including the HR, budget.
- Strong attachment and team management exposure,
- Training and practice/skill of software application (specialized groundwater mapping, interpretation and retrieval software's such as the Geographic Information System, GIS
Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Experience:
- A graduate in Hydrogeology, Geology and/or Applied geology,
- Experience ground water wells development pumping test analysis and interpretation,
- Proven technical ability to handle/overcome drilling problems (e.g. tools stuck in to a well, well collapses, loss of circulation) on top of good reporting experience including monitoring and evaluation of drilling and related hydrogeological operations and power point presentation skills),
- Knowledge in water well drilling technologies (drilling rigs, tools and accessories) and knowledge in drilling methods,
Working Environment / Conditions:
Travel: 50% Domestic travel is required
