 Since May 2019, Resolve to Save Lives has collaborated with the Federal Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization on a Hypertension Prevention and Control Project in five regions and two city administrations. The project includes hypertension prevention through screening, care, treatment, and health education at point of care, on service uptake and treatment adherence, as well as salt reduction campaigns at community and schools. To fill in the vacant position in Oromia Region, RTSL is hiring one coordinator for 2 years contract period with the potential of extension.

Overall Role :

The Regional Coordinator will be based at Oromia Regional Health Bureau and report to the Regional Health Bureau and Vital Strategies Ethiopia office to perform the duties listed below.

Key responsibilities:

  • Take a lead and coordination role in ensuring high-quality hypertension-related data collection at the facility level and timely reporting from the district and sub-district levels on hypertension management and control
  • Provide regular mentoring and technical support to health care workers regarding provision of hypertension treatment according to the national treatment protocol and reporting of hypertension data using a standardized recording and reporting system at health facility level
  • Provide technical and programmatic training for health care workers
  • Provide ongoing supervision of hypertension treatment at all facilities in the jurisdiction
  • Conduct regional review meeting in collaboration with the regional health bureau
  • Coordinate quarterly project joint supervision in collaboration with regional and woreda health bureaus
  • Coordinate regional-level salt reduction activities, campaigns, and health education programs
  • Coordinate regular analysis of surveillance and epidemiological data with FELTP -NCD residence in the region and share findings with supervisor to facilitate appropriate follow up
  • Assist with planning for and monitoring of drug availability and timeliness of drug delivery to health facilities
  • Undertake other technical assistance activities as deemed appropriate and necessary by the regional health bureau and Vital Strategies / Resolve to Save Lives
  • Work in unison with the other co-workers at regional and woreda health bureau levels

Job Requirements

Qualifications, Skills and Competencies: 

  • At least 7 years' public health work experience of which three years include professional mentoring and related guidance and support to others
  • Master’s degree or higher in public health, social science, or related disciplines
  • Experience with non-communicable diseases programming is an added advantage
  • Excellent organizational, documentation and analytical skills
  • Familiarity with health sector government structure and functions
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to work well with others and manage relationships with different stakeholders
  • Sound understanding of the technical and programmatic aspects of a cardiovascular public health program
  • Proficiency in use of computers, including MS Office applications, especially MS Excel
  • Fluency in spoken and written English and Afaan Oromo
  • Willingness and ability to travel to the health facilities up to15 days within a month
