Objective
The Project Officer _ Leather will ensure the new program is established in an effective and professional manner, in close collaboration with relevant environmental protection authorities and leather industry players in Ethiopia.
Position in the organisation
The Project Officer _ Leather reports to the Project Manager. S/he will also be expected to work closely with the national and regional programming team, as well as the regional innovation team Works closely with Program Managers.
Result areas
- Technical support on leather processing and solid waste management to tanneries, manufacturers, MSMEs, TVETs monitoring and reporting all activities and coordinate activities among project partner.
- Overall coordination of ground work of LISEC Jobs in Modjo in close collaboration with the environmental expert and other experts from the consortium
- Take responsibility of monthly plans, project progresses and reports to be submitted to relevant institutions in Ethiopia, Solidaridad East Africa
- Ensure that professional (result chain led) M&E systems are in place to effectively monitor the performance indicators of LISEC Jobs in collaboration with the M&E Officer.
- Advise and report to the project manager and regional management of Solidaridad East Africa on further design and development of the leather strategy in Ethiopia, direction, ambitions and vision in line with the Multi Annual Strategy Plans (MASP).
- Ensure that professional communication materials are in place and (with support from the regional and global communication teams) stories are organized for publications about the work of LISEC Jobs in Ethiopia and facilitate presentations held during trade fora, and national/ international conferences
- Provide support in hosting incoming trade missions or incoming visits from Solidaridad, partners and international donors linked to LISEC Jobs
- Conduct GAP assessments in all tanneries around Modjo to develop a baseline situation as the starting point
- Develop improvement plans in close collaboration with each tannery selected in LISEC Jobs
- Provide technical support to selected tanneries on adopting cleaner production practices in line with national and international environmental standards
- Adopt the self-assessment tool in all tanneries (called Tannery of the Future) to support all tanneries to improve their production practices in line with the TOTF benchmark
- Support all tanneries in improving and adopting measurement systems to ensure progress and performance of the tanneries are monitored closely
Duration: 1-year contract (extension based on performance and availability of resources)

Job Requirements
Knowledge and experience
Required Candidate Profile
- Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture, Agribusiness, Agricultural Extension, Agronomy or related field; a relevant Master’s Degree or postgraduate qualification will be an added advantage
- Demonstrated farmer training and/or extension experience, especially in the design, organization and delivery of training events and development of training materials
- 3 years’ experience in the leather industry in Ethiopia;
- Proven ability to work effectively in cross-cultural situations
- Excellent computer skills (Microsoft office and Internet)
- Experience in the development of proposals, work plans and budgets
- Ability to work independently and in a team towards defined objectives and goals
- Willingness and ability to travel extensively in Ethiopia and other countries within Eastern and Central Africa for cross-learning activities and coffee meetings.

- Experience in program administration, operating procedures, oversight and monitoring.
- Knowledge of project funding procedures and guidelines.
- Ability to work in diverse situations.
- Demonstrate experience in a similar position.
